The verdict of the trial was unjust and heartbreaking. Although all the evidence against Tom Robinson was false, the jury still sided with Mayella and her father. The trial truly shows that Maycomb is infested and plagued with their racist views. After the guilty verdict that ignores Tom 's own version of himself in favor of Maycomb 's nightmare vision of him, Tom loses hope. In chapter 24, Scout quotes “Atticus had used every tool available to free men to save Tom Robinson, but in the secret courts of men 's hearts Atticus had no case.
“mockingbirds don't do one thing but make music for us to enjoy” (Lee 93). One of the examples of good vs evil in this story is Tom Robinson’s court case with Mayella Ewell. Tom Robinson is a black man named who is accused for a crime of raping and beating Mayella Ewell even though he just helped her with household chores. In the book Tom was seen as a bad figure for most of the book even though he was just a caring, harmless person. You can say many mockingbirds die in today’s reality, but it is the innocent that suffer the most often.
Raymond. He is a mockingbird because he's willing to lie to protect his family. When scout asked why he lied about being a drunk and he says “It ain't honest but it's mighty helpful to folks. Secretly, Miss Finch, I'm not much of a drinker, but you see they could never, never understand that I live like I do because that's the way I want to live.”(lee 200). This shows that Mr. Raymond is willing to live with this lie in order to satisfy his neighbors' need to understand his lack of racism.
In our society, innocent people, known as mockingbirds, experience prejudice in their lives. A/T: In the novel To Kill A Mockingbird by Harper Lee, Background: Tom Robinson is a black person who’s was accused of raping a white girl named Mayella Ewell which he has never done. For this reason, Atticus Finch was appointed to be his lawyer. As a result, Atticus takes a stand for him by approving his case and standing up for him, but Tom was still found guilty. Thesis:While some may believe that Atticus should not have taken a stand for Tom Robinson because of his race, Atticus proves that he should, in fact, take a stand to give Tom a voice and because it’s the right thing to do.
It seems like everyone is against Jem and Scout or even Atticus except their good neighbors, who really understand them. The conflict even growth bigger when Atticus defense for Tom Robinson, a colored skin man that get accused of raping a white woman. The adult, their friend and even their cousin trying to hurt them. Jem and Scout didn’t deserve to hear those negative comments on their father. Moreover, Atticus didn’t do anything wrong, didn’t he?
He gives gifts to the kids that treated him wrongly, even goes as far as to save their life, while risking his own. Boo Radley is obviously a Mockingbird, giving gifts and not harming a soul, but the people of Maycomb think wrongly of him. Sadly Boo isn’t the only innocent man to be hurt by
As well as Tom Robinson 's unfair treatment because of the immense racism occuring at the time period and segregation still happening, there was a biased opinion towards white people and whatever they claimed, even if the claims were false. To Kill a Mockingbird” had a really big impact with the lens of African American criticism, because of Tom Robinson 's very unfair and unjustified death, even though Atticus did everything in his power, which was a lot with that incredible speech he made and proving that Tom did no such thing, he was actually a very nice young man of twenty five, was prosecuted anyhow, it impacted many people including Atticus and his children and the town i would say. This book had a major impact in many ways, and in very important way it made the audience think and reflect and have that piece of literature forever held in their hearts and maybe it left them better people or made someone discover something they didn’t know they were looking for. This book constructed a whole world a made a big revelation and engraved its roots of change for the world to see and read and
People that are different from the main crowd of society are often viewed as outcast of society. They don’t choose to be outcast but they chosen as outcasts by society. In the book, To Kill A Mockingbird there are many outcast, including Boo Radley, Atticus Finch, and Mr. Dolphus. These castaways aren’t accepted by the rest of the town because of their looks or the way they act. Boo Radley is boy that lives across the street from main character of the book, Scout Finch.
Dolphus Raymond, Tom Robinson, and Boo Radley are all blameless people that are harmed and or judged based on factors that are misunderstood by others. It’s a sin to kill a mockingbird, innocent creatures that are only trying to bring joy to the town, but people do not understand what they had done until it
Both of them where innocent, but when people “Shot” them, they lost their innocence. People started hating them before they even knew about them. Many people spread rumors about Boo Radley, when in fact, none knew a thing about him. People thought he was a maniac, essentially “killing” him. The same goes for Tom Robinson.
In both of theses stories there is some precious stuff going on. In to kill a mockingbird Tom Robinson was accused of rape that he did not do, but because he was black he had got accused of it. In the report of Emmett Till Till was killed because he had want to the south to visit his family but he was killed because he was black. Emmett Till was innocent but because he had no wetness no one would have ever believed him in his point of view. Tom Robinson was also innocent but because he is back no one would believe his point of view about what had really happened.
[He said] it [didn’t] bother Perry a bit” (Capote 255). Dick is honestly trying to make Perry look very guilty instead of him. Even though Perry killed all four of the Clutters, Capote was still against the death penalty for Perry. Capote was also biased throughout the story because of his “relationship” with Perry. An example of Capote’s bias is when he wrote that “Dewey, a believer in capital punishment, its purported deterrent effects, and its justice, witnessed the hangings” but he could not watch Perry’s hanging.
There are many character in the book considered a mockingbird, but most poeple think that Boo Radlet isn’t one of them because of all the rumors that spread about Boo Radley. He’s a mockingbird because when Jem and Scout were getting in a fight with Mr.Ewel.While they were fighting Boo Radley was there to save them by killing MR.Ewel. Not only does he savethe children by killing Mr.Ewell, but also by carrying Jem back to Atticus. This proves that Boo Radley is a mockingbird.Boo Radley life style is affected by rumors people made up about him. People
Tolerant is something important since one does not know why people do what they do unless they know what circumstances the person is living in. They also learned that many people do many prejudice acts, especially unjust acts through The Great Depression time. Next they learned that avoiding to combine evil with itself since it could cause worse things. Kind, being kind to one another gets you really far in life. Atticus told Jem one day “Shoot all the bluejays you want, if you can hit 'em but remember it’s a sin to kill a mockingbird”(103).
