Abstract The sunflower seed is the seed of the sunflower (Helianthus annuus). The methanol extract of seeds of Helianthus annuus were screened for analgesic activity in mice model to systematically explore the medicinal values of the plant. Acetic acid induced writhing and hot plate methods were used to confirm the central and peripheral analgesic action. The extract at dose 100mg/kg and 200mg/kg showed attenuated writhing inhibition at 50.35% and 57.85% in case of acetic acid-induced writhing test which showed significant analgesic activity (p< 0.05). In the hot plate method increase (p < 0.05) of latency period was also observed in comparison to standard aspirin. At 60 minutes, the latency period of two different doses (100 and 200 mg/kg …show more content…
The mice were kept at constant temperature (22±2oC) and 12-h light/12-h dark. Mice were fed standard laboratory food (Hind Lever diet pellets) and water was given ad libitum. Each animal was used once in the behavior tests. The experimental protocols for this study were approved by the Institutional Ethical Committee following the guidelines of Committee for the Purpose of Control and Supervision of Experiments on Animals (CPCSEA). Plant material and extraction 300gm dried powder of seed was weighed & taken in a aspirator (2.5L). Before placing powders into the aspirator, the jar was washed properly with acetone and then dried. 800ml of solvent i.e. methanol was added gradually. The container with its content was sealed & kept for 20 days with occasional shaking & stirring. The major portion of the extractable compounds of the plant materials were dissolved in the solvent. Then whole mixture was filtered through cotton wool and the filtrate was concentrated by evaporation in dry & clean air. And it was kept for 15 days to get the final extract of the
of Sodium bicarbonate (NaCHO3), and 5 mL of phenol red solution were all placed at separate location inside the baggie. Finally all the air was pushed out of the bag, the bag was sealed, and the contents were mixed thoroughly. Observation were then recorded and the bag was thrown away. This process was then repeated six more times using different combinations of chemicals.

I think the characters that try to search a better way of life in the Raisin in the Sun are Walter Lee Younger and Lena Younger (Mama). I think they do this to help their family prosper. They also want their family to gain money and let their kids/ grandkids have whatever they want and not let them live in poor conditions. They wanted to live up to their families expectation. In the story "Marigolds", Lizbeth's actions are influenced by several setting issues including poverty, The Great Depression, and Miss Lottie’s Marigolds. Lizbeth's family is poor and struggling to make ends meet, which causes her to feel frustrated and powerless. "Poverty was the cage in which we all were trapped, and our hatred of it was still the vague, undirected restlessness of the zoo-bred flamingo who knows instinctively that nature created it to be free." The setting of Miss Lottie's garden, with its beautiful marigolds, represents a contrast to the poverty and ugliness of Lizbeth's surroundings, which makes her feel envious and resentful. "
Simon Wiesenthal, along with millions of individuals, faced horrendous circumstances as a Nazi prisoner living in concentration camps during the Holocaust. While performing slave labor, Wiesenthal is presented with an astounding request from an unexpected source, a Nazi SS officer, and faces an unimaginable entreaty. When Simon Wiesenthal awakened each morning in the concentration camp, his primary thoughts were likely on survival and his only concern regarding the SS officers was avoiding them. Unbeknownst to him, while performing slave labor at a hospital near the concentration camp where he was imprisoned, Wiesenthal would interact with an SS officer amid unlikely and unexpected circumstances.
After finishing The Sunflower, I realized that sunflowers obviously played an important part in Simon’s life. Simon and Arthur are both in this Nazis Concentration Camp. They are both part of the group that actually gets to leave their living quarters for work detail. One day they pass a military cemetery and Simon notices “on each grave there was planted a sunflower, as straight as a soldier on parade” (14).
Alan L. Berger wrote an essay for the Sunflower Symposium. (118). Berger claims that he would not have forgiven the SS soldier, Karl, on behalf of those murdered. He states, “My own thoughts are firm. Simon should, and could, not forgive on behalf of those so cruelly murdered.”
There are many symbols in A Raisin in the Sun worth describing, but one that particularly stands out is Mama’s plant. It is old and barely a substantial piece of nature, yet it makes many vital appearances in the play. The small plant seems to personify Mama’s stubborn nature in its intent on survival despite its close to death appearance. It also represents Mama’s dream that seems close to being crushed, yet never dies. As a whole, the plant is an extension of Mama’s character and an important symbol in the play.
In the book The Sunflower the young S.S Karl asked Simon for forgiveness for his inhumanity to other people. Simon Wiesenthal could not forgive him for something he had done to someone else. (The Sunflower) How could I forgive someone or a whole country for doing something to someone else when it was not done to me?
Stylistic and language features were devices that were used throughout the novel Seed, written by Lisa Heathfield, to develop the themes. Abuse, psychological, physical and sexual, was a theme which was shown throughout the novel, and was strengthened with the use of the stylistic and language features. Imagery was one of the techniques that was used throughout the novel, and impacted on how the reader perceived this abuse. The use of the narrator’s voice also had a significant impact on how the reader viewed the theme, and the overall development. Imagery is a common and powerful tool that writers use to strengthen and convey their ideas and messages.
