A Surreal Experience in Korea
It was only like a blink of an eye when the Korean wave has reached its highest peak and conquered Philippine television. Many have adapted and have even lived out a lifestyle as in a Korean way. And I was one of the many. I was one of those who got captivated and became a huge fan of Korean Dramas. Full House, Winter Sonata, Empress Ki, My Love from the Star were among the Korean dramas I was totally crazy about. I was impressed how creative Koreans are when it comes to producing films with emotionally powerful content. More than its beauty and style, what amazed me is the richness of the traditional Confucian values, which place emphasis on familial relationships, filial piety, and sibling love. Because of this, my interest in Korean language and culture has considerably developed and Korea came into the picture as my favorite country to visit.

The distinctive appeal of Korea has transformed my time into unforgettable memories. Together with my friends, we had a ton of fun for a day trip to Seoraksan National Park. The views are absolutely incredible, the hike is very easy, and the place provides an extraordinary chance to experience the peace and tranquility of a naturally preserved environment. The Yuseong Hot Spring in Daejeon, Nami Island in Chuncheon, and Jeju Island are also an ideal place to relax and enjoy the atmosphere. I have to mention the beautiful Haeundae beach in Busan in the summertime for its pristine beauty and a lively ambiance. I also love the big amusement parks – Everland and Lotte World in Korea! I remember how shockingly manageable the places were. After a tiring day, don’t forget to treat yourself through noraebang (singing rooms) and jjimjilbang (public sauna

Nothing to Envy Ordinary Lives in North Korea by Barbara Demick is a must read for anyone interested in North Korea. Because North Korea is isolated from the rest of the world, this novel gives readers a chance to explore these foreign grounds. I thoroughly enjoyed reading about the different experiences each of the six defectors went through while living there as well as escaping. Numerous North Koreans are starving and living in poor conditions till this day; yet, amidst all of their hardships, they found love, learned, and enjoyed. My favorite part of the novel was the star-crossed lovers story of two defectors.

Two less Lonely People in the World... We Filipinos really love romantic comedies even those with cliché plots. Kita-Kita suddenly became one of the hottest topics on social media in the Philippines and that’s what sparked our interest in watching and critiquing this film. What sets it apart from the usual romantic-comedies we have watched is its attempt to put a twist on a typical “boy-meets-girl” happy ending story. Kita-Kita exhibit predictable scenes, however it still successfully grasps the attention of the viewers with its heart-warming love story about finding the right person at exactly the right time.
