I interviewed Jasmine Brooks a Surveillance Officer for the Dover Downs Hotel and Casino. Within the interview I asked her some questions that I wanted to know to have a better understanding of what a Surveillance Officer does. The purpose of this interview was to gain more information on a security job. I first started by asking her why does this type of work interest her and how did she get started. I then followed up by asking what are the requirements or ways to gain experience for the job. This kind of work wasn’t something Jasmine sat out to do. She got a promotion from already working in the Casino. Now that she has the job she says she loves it. She mentioned that there was more that she had to do but she wasn’t able to discuss all that information. Jasmine said to sum it all up she has to make sure the employees handling money/running games are doing what they are supposed to be doing. Pretty much making sure people aren’t being dishonest. The way they do that is by watching the cameras. I asked Jasmine about the dislikes and the different challenges about the job. A challenge about the job would be learning the cameras. The position of each camera and the amount of cameras. Learning the new software is another challenge too for her. Something she dislikes about the job would be waking up early every morning. Another dislike would be the really busy days because it’s more people to watch and so much is happening on every camera. I’m glad I had the opportunity to interview Jasmine. I defiantly learned more about the security aspect when it comes to a job. I think it’s a good job to start out at for a criminal justice student like myself.
