I interviewed Jasmine Brooks a Surveillance Officer for the Dover Downs Hotel and Casino. Within the interview I asked her some questions that I wanted to know to have a better understanding of what a Surveillance Officer does. The purpose of this interview was to gain more information on a security job. I first started by asking her why does this type of work interest her and how did she get started. I then followed up by asking what are the requirements or ways to gain experience for the job. This kind of work wasn’t something Jasmine sat out to do. She got a promotion from already working in the Casino. Now that she has the job she says she loves it. She mentioned that there was more that she had to do but she wasn’t able to discuss all that information. Jasmine said to sum it all up she has to make sure the employees handling money/running games are doing what they are supposed to be doing. Pretty much making sure people aren’t being dishonest. The way they do that is by watching the cameras. I asked Jasmine about the dislikes and the different challenges about the job. A challenge about the job would be learning the cameras. The position of each camera and the amount of cameras. Learning the new software is another challenge too for her. Something she dislikes about the job would be waking up early every morning. Another dislike would be the really busy days because it’s more people to watch and so much is happening on every camera. I’m glad I had the opportunity to interview Jasmine. I defiantly learned more about the security aspect when it comes to a job. I think it’s a good job to start out at for a criminal justice student like myself. I conducted a telephone interview with Tammy Hubert the morning of Thursday, October 29, 2015. She works at a local Portland agency called, Central City Concern. The agency is a large company and has numerous services to offer the community. Tammy works in the CCC Recovery Center. Working at Central City Concern is a newer job position for her as she was just hired with the company in June of this year.

When I walked in through the door of the dentist 's office, I was a little bit nervous. I had done my best to blend in with the staff who all wore black scrubs. The front desk receptionist, Priscilla, told me to take a seat and I eased into the cold, black, leather sofa. I fumbled with my fingers nervously as if I was a patient about to get a root canal. I believe the transition will be a natural segue, as I continue my career this position will enable expanded knowledge of person assistant duties. Police work is difficult. It requires a certain personality type, for not anyone can be a police officer. Everyone I encountered during this time had an appearance of enjoying their work. During my research, one thing I noticed is that there a lot more negative voices regarding our police than positive ones.
Everyday, she excels in her job of caring for the children and making a difference in the community. Due to her kindness she would always bring thoughtful gifts for the children. She doesn 't have to do the classes with the children everyday but she continues to do it like Sylvia says “school supposed to let out in the summer I heard, but she dont never let up” (Bambara 96). The lessons learned while earning her degree has lead her to becoming a positive role model in the children 's lives; nonetheless, teaching them lessons that may never learn from others. As a Human Service major what better way to learn more about the profession than from someone who has experience in the field. I chose to interview a friend of mine, Florence Martus. Mrs. Martus is employed through the city of Fredericksburg, VA with the Department of Social Services. This agency is located at 608 Jackson St, Suite 100 Fredericksburg, VA 22401. Virginia Department of Social Services provides many services to the public such as, Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF), Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP), Medicaid, Adoption, Child Care Assistance, Refugee Resettlement Service, and Child and Adult Protective Services.
In the interview with Officer Richard Bucklin, I asked him questions regarding his experiences as a police officer, the highs and lows of being a police officer, his opinions about recent controversial police topics and the challenges he faces everyday. All of his answers were very interesting and informational. I learned a lot when interviewing Officer Bucklin. I started off by asking Officer Bucklin how he got started in his field of work? Officer Bucklin responded saying that he needed a steady job that had a weekly pay.
