Ono Jiro is ninety-three years old and owns a sushi restaurant called Sukiyabashi Jiro. His restaurant is a three-Michelin-starred sushi restaurant. Jiro started working at the age of seven. He was kicked out of his house at the age nine, because his parents could not afford to take care of him. When Jiro was in school he was troublemaker. He and many of his friend bullied other children at his school. At the age of seventy he had a heart attack as he was on his way back from the market. One point in the movie he says “Once you decide on your occupation... you must immerse yourself in your work. You have to fall in love with your work. Never complain about your job. You must dedicate your life to mastering your skill. That's the secret of success... and is the key to being regarded honorably.” (Jiro) Jiro is talking about one cannot love their job and be happy until they learn the craft. At another point in the movie Jiro says “I've never once hated this job. I fell in love with my work and gave my life to it. Even though I'm eighty-five years old, I don't feel like retiring. That's how I feel.” (Jiro) Jiro has his son to pass his legacy onto. In one of the scenes Jiro says something like I let my children go to school. Like Jiro said, once one chose a job then you need to stick with it. And that is exactly what he is pushing onto his son. Jiro also told his other son if you fail don’t come back home, who wanted to create his own restaurant. This shows how much Jiro cares and loves his restaurant.
