BHEL - AN OVERVIEW

BHEL was established in the year1964 i.e. nearly 44 years ago with an objective for the country to have its own Heavy Electrical Equipment Industry to ensure self reliance.

BHEL specializes in the manufacture and distribution of electrical related products. It is also amongst the largest companies operating in the global power segment. .

The company offers more than 180 products and engages in the provision of systems and services through its core operating sectors: Power, Industry, which includes Transmission, Transportation, Telecommunication and Reneweable Energy, and International operation.

The company has 14 manufacturing units, four power

Standard and Special Fasteners.
4. WindMills.
5. Solar Water Heating Systems (SWHS).
6. Solar Thermal Pumps: and
7. Reverse Osmosis Water Desalination Plants.

However, the general facilities which were created for the above items were utilised for the manufacture of only two items viz: Solar Water Heating Systems (SWHS)and Wind Mills. The production of wind mills was stopped from the year 1988-89 and subsequently the plant taken up the manufacturing of Solar Lanterns from 1992-93 and fabrication of Bus Ducts for BHEL, Jhansi from the year 1994-95. The net turnover of BHEL, Rudrapur for financial year 2008-09 is Rs 38.13 crores. The approximated turnover for year 2009-10 is Rs 105 crores.

BUS DUCTS

It is further reinforced with aluminium channel rings at intervals which are also used for enclosure and insulator mounting . Sealed openings are provided in the busduct run near insulator for inspection and maintenance.The three phase enclosures are interconnected effectively at the ends to permit flow of current. Different sections of each phase are generally connected together by aluminium make up pieces at site.

ACCESSORIES :
RUBBER BELLOWS :

It is provided at Bus duct terminations and in the run of bus duct if route length is more than 30 to 35 mtr. , to take care of machine vibrations , alignment and expansion / contration due to temperature variations. Further , it insulates the termination equipments connecting to bus duct and thus do not let the bus enclosure currents to flow in the connecting equipments.

FLEXIBLES :

Copper flexibles are provided at bus duct terminations i.e at Generator end , Generator transformer end , LAVT Cubicle , NG Cubicle and other connecting equipment end. Aluminium flexibles are provided in the run of bus duct to take care of alignment , variation in bus bar lengths due to temperature
