They include all consumables that people buy at regular intervals (except groceries/pulses). The most common in the list are soaps, detergent cakes and powders, shampoos, toothpaste, shaving products, packaged foodstuff, shoe polishes, household accessories and also extends to certain electronics related goods.  Britannia takes full control of Bangalore-based bakery food retailer “DAILY BREAD”. It acquired 50% stake by June 2006 but in 2010 it swept away the remaining shares as well.  There was rising food inflation and food companies like ITC, HUL including Britannia had to go for price hike to be able to sustain rising input prices. India’s food price index had rose an annual 16.22% in the year to March 13th.  Britannia went for a price hike ranging from 5-10 % on account of the rising costs of various inputs.  In the loop were also other FMCG companies like Dabur, HUL and Marico which faced intense competition. • AUGUST’10  The stocks of Britannia suddenly surged 23.52% in just 5 trading days during 29th July- 2nd August 2010.
