Food packaging industry is growing rapidly with many food products like farm products, fruit juices, hot and cold beverages, sugar, ediable oils, concentrates, grains, atta, confectionery, and biscuits etc need to be packed before consumption. Package is acting as the first salesmen. Some times the cost of packaging is more than the product itself. In 2011-2012, the milk production of India is approximately 127 million tons, But the storage capacity is only 70000 to 80000 tons. Cold chain includes both the cold chain warehouses as well as the temperature controlled vehicles. Indian cold chain market is expected to register the compund annual groth rate (CAGR) of around 25.8% during the period 2009-2017. This growth will generate total revenue of the cold chain market in India to reach INR 640 billion by 2017.Currently, Container corporation of India (CONCOR) has monopoly in the rail reefers market and over 94% of the temperature sensitive products are transported through CONCOR containers only. CONCOR has recently lauched fully refrigerated container train along with the Indian railways, which is mainly meant for boosting the export of temperature sensitive pharmaceutical products. Apart from CONCOR, some of the other players like APL IndiaLinx, GatewayRail, etc are also existing in India. At present there are approximately 30,000 temperature controlled vehicles. In these more than 80% of temperture controlled vehicles in India are used for transportation of milk and milk products only.
