Strength Development, Networking/Relationships, and Resources In order to become a successful medical social worker that brings change to the organization, I would need to have the expertise as a per-diem medical social worker in order to become a full-time position in a well-known hospital. The first goal will allow me to gain the experience needed to become a successful medical social worker plus learning more about the Asian and Asian-Americans usage of social workers within the inpatient and outpatient settings. It allows me to develop my skills to engage with a diverse group of people in a broad age range that I might not have previous experience with. These people are my direct network who may provide adequate insight into the job and pointers in becoming a successful social work in such a fast-paced setting. Additionally, I can reach out to other social workers within this field by going to networking events, professional group regional or national conferences, and LinkedIn. In regards to my licensing requirements, I would need to reach out to my supervisor at the full-time position to gain supervision for difficult situations, so I can handle the case properly. With the adequate resources, the patient will be able to move forward with a proper plan. With regards to working with the Asian population, I would need to reach out to more Asian social workers, psychologists, or psychiatrists within my community to survey and learn about their understanding of the group’s usage of mental health and social workers within their …show more content…

With the achievement of my short-term goals, I will have experience that will help me achieve my intermediate goal of becoming a licensed medical social worker within a teaching hospital setting. Furthermore, I will have the experience needed to apply for social worker positions within a teaching hospital. After obtaining this job, I will have opportunities to learn more about the teaching hospital system and impact the patients who require more specialized care. In order to achieve goal two, I would need to attend more intervention training provided by the graduate school, and other professional organizations in order to stay up to date. Next, I will learn about different issues that patients go through and what interventions help such patients dealing with issues of substance abuse, homelessness, and mental health problems. This becomes a continuous time frame throughout my career.
