Paul Revere is famous for the ride he made in the night to warn the colonists of the approaching British soldiers. What is not well-known is that Sybil Ludington, a 16-year-old girl, made a similar ride in 1777. Sybil lived with her family in New York during the Revolutionary War. Her father was a colonel in the American army fighting the British government. One night a messenger came to Sybil’s home to warn her father that the British soldiers were attacking the nearby town of Danbury, Connecticut. The messenger asked the colonel for his help. Unfortunately, the colonel’s army was not together at the time because it was planting season. All his men were miles apart on their farms. Because the messenger was too tired
