Some comes in anger moments. Some comes in tragic moments. Almost every poem hides the richness value of author’s thoughts. One read poems to understand the world of which people dreams of. One read poems to explore the mysterious secrets.
June Jordan’s poetry is known for its immediacy and accessibility as well as its interest in identity and the representation of personal experiences. Her poetry is often deeply autobiographical, political and often displays a radical, globalized notion of solidarity amongst the worlds oppressed. “Poem about my rights” by the poet, June Jordan can be seen as spoken word poetry rather than page poetry where oral performance and repetition are used to convey her feelings and messages to the listeners. Poetry can be divided into two groups; written poetry and spoken word poetry. Written poetry, also known as page poetry, is written and is analysed by the reader.
"Introduction to Poetry" by Billy Collins and "How to Read Poetry" by Gail Hemmeter both convey their viewpoint of understanding poetry. However, Gail Hemmeter's "How to Read Poetry" is more effective at conveying his viewpoint of understanding poetry. This is because he give a list of things to do in order to help understand poetry and he explains the different aspects of poetry and what they mean. In this essay I will be arguing why Gail Hemmeter's "How to Read Poetry" better conveys his viewpoint of understanding poetry.
Throughout her poetry she remains honest, painting an unflattering self-portrait through lyrical beauty, allowing us to empathize with her. One of the key ideas in Bishop’s poetry is a moment of epiphany, this is always supplemented with excellent, stark language. Through Bishop’s poetry it is evident that her childhood experiences had a very negative impact on her life. She portrays these negative experiences through ingenious, immaculate writing. My personal favourite is ‘Sestina’, her superb technical ability is shown in this poem.
Through Eavan Boland 's poetry, she looks back on things that have happened in her life, pondering their meaning and how they have impacted her for good or bad. She does this through her use of language. There are recurring themes in her poetry. She refers to mythology and folklore and compares them to life experiences. Boland uses simple and accessible language even when dealing with complex emotions.
Poetry Analysis All over the world there are diverse authors who want to represent their feeling in the various types of writings. One of the most frequently used classifications of writing can include poetry; a composition that represents a feeling on a specific topic that is meant to be read or listened to. As stated before, there are hundreds of different poems, yet two of my favorite poems can include “The Tyranny of a Nice or Suburban Girl” by Sarah J. Liebman and “Autobiography in Five Short Chapters” by Portia Nelson. Although both of these poems possess powerful tones as well as structures that are able to pass the meaning of the poem to the reader, the two of them are very different when it comes to figurative language.
Another good representation of Faith Shearins smooth and detailed tone is this part of the poem ”No longer remember, we were seeing / one another after seasons of darkness” (“Sight” 24-25) this part of the poem shows how descriptive the writer is and how smooth and precise she is in her writing. It also shows how she likes to add detail so the reader can try to think what she was thinking while writing the poem. Faith Shearin is an amazing author; she helps the reader understand what she is saying by being very descriptive. From her thoroughness she helps the reader better understand the information that she writes; and still leaves openness for the reader to have their own ideas about her poems and
Dickinson also incorporates her fixation on seclusion through the syntax in her poetry. An example of this is whenever she places a dash in her poems, which is her signature mark in poetry. An example of this is when she writes, “And sweetest- in the Gale- is heard-And sore must be the storm-” (Vendler 118). This line from the poem is interpreted to mean that a person should hold onto hope especially when life is hard, which is shown when the Gale starts to blow.
An dissertation about Poe sums up his biggest help in poetry, his repetition of his thinking in different ways that sets him apart from other writers. Poe was a very respected writer because of his style of writing. Allan always believed in not the fame of the writer but of the work of the
Poetry is a piece of literature where the author shares his ideas of a subject or person. He is attempting to allow the reader an understanding of his feelings regarding this subject. Most of the time poetry can be very pleasing to the ear; however, at times it can be written in a manner that is odd. Some poetry is written in a way that the reader can “hear”, “feel”, “see” or “taste” elements in the poem. Some poems may rhyme while others may not need to in order to convey the message.
Annie Proulx is an American novelist who has won many prestigious awards for her writing including The Pulitzer prize for fiction. Her writing is unique when compared to others because she writes in a very poetic way which makes the reader seem like they are reading a long poem. Her word choice or diction helps achieve this. Annie Proulx’s diction in The Shipping News is in the verge of poetry. She takes simple things and turns them poetic just by adding a few words or phrases.
Poetry is a work of art giving strength to those who have no way to explain how they feel. Edgar Allen Poe had a dreary pitter patter manner of writing poems which were depressive due to loss of his thirteen-year old wife. Another example is Anne Sexton who had a mental illness and used writing as a manner to escape. The grandiose praise of Icarus’s feat of flight struts gracefully through Anne Sexton’s “To a friend whose work has come to triumph”; Through her exquisite diction, Anne Sexton shed light on the fact success is success even if it ends dramatically.
