Canada is considered as one the most diverse country in the world where people of many race, religion, colour and sexual orientation live as one nation. According to Statistics Canada, 20 percent of Canadian population is represented by immigrants, the highest among G8 notions. On world stage, Canada has been a consistently a strong voice for the protection human rights and advancement of democratic values. Canada has played an important in the world promoting human rights, from the drafting of Universal Declaration of Human Rights in 1947/48 to our current commitment world human rights issues. Canada has been seen as a global leader by other countries.

Has anybody ever thought of this? Racism is sinful! Probably many have, but somehow everyone end up having to talk about it, as they see this form of sin practiced all over the world. It 's a serious problem. The word “Racism” is simply a word used for a person that demonstrates superiority of their race to another person.

The act of racism has been present in every society throughout history. Discrimination of other groups based on their different descent and ethnicity. These forms of hatred and negativity are based off old fashion values and traditions. People of different cultures believe there’s is superior, this belief in superiority may take the form of ethnocentrism or prejudice. In early Vancouver, the Chinese and First Nations experienced this disparagement first hand.

While it may seem like racism is not a problem in today’s society, it very much is. It was a larger problem before our time, as shown in the novel, The Poisonwood Bible, by Barbara Kingsolver. People witness racism everyday, whether they realize they do or not. Racism, by definition, is the belief that one race of people is better than another race of people. It is everywhere; on the radio, on television, on social media; however, it is not prohibited like it should be.

Racism; “prejudice, discrimination, or antagonism directed against someone of a different race based on the belief that one's own race is superior.” Apply this definition to the citizens in the United States in the 1900’s and now, and then compare it. Do you see a difference? I don’t. Back then they were treated poorly as shown in Roll of Thunder Hear My Cry, “Hidden Figures,” Raisin in the Sun, and several other sources.

Introduction Racial contact plays such a fundamental role in the contemporary South African society. In post-apartheid, many people and organisations try to eliminate any racism and reconcile with one another as a racially diverse nation. However, not everybody is willing to move on from the past and there are wounds that are not yet healed. A race is defined as a group that is treated differently in society based on certain biological characteristics (Andersen & Taylor, 2008:234).

Systemic Racism in the United States Many individuals today have different point of views on how the United States of America became what it is today. For instance, point of views such as how society learned to function the way it does, the law and order in place, and ultimately, how circumstances have developed throughout history. Unfortunately, institutional/institutionalized racism, also known as systemic racism is also a concept that has settled and is grown to be quite predominant in the United States all through times past. Systemic racism continues to take place in settings such as banks, courts of law, government organizations, school systems, and the like.

I both agree and disagree with Nenia Campbell’s statement. “We always vilify with what we don’t understand” (Nenia Campbell). The part in the statement that I do not agree with is the word ‘always’. I do agree that we often vilify what we do not understand, but not always. Take for example a soldier.

Thesis: To Kill a Mockingbird shows that racism controls people’s lives in a way that makes people think negatively. In the current world, that same topic has an influence in areas like politics while creating more social issues impacting the world to which is undesirable for the future. With what is present in the book, many of the characters are controlled by the actions and words that reside with racism affecting their conscience to react negatively. This certain behavior can be seen through the trial of Tom Robinson while interviewing with Mayella Ewell. Mayella claims to the court that Tom “took advantage of [her]” even though she knows the truth while defending herself by stating that it was Tom (251).

Many of us have experienced racism in some way, whether that may be racism expressed towards us personally, witnessed some form of it, or perhaps even partook in it. We are all living through this time in which racism is in play, and we experience and observe the effects of it. It has numerous negative effects including those towards mental health. A few of those are stress, PTSD, depression, and anxiety (APA). Racism stems largely from fear, but also from stereotypes and psychological reasons like past experiences, or feelings of inferiority and blame.
