Symbolism is an important tool used by writers to enhance their writing and help further support their theme. The book Fahrenheit 451 is no exception, many different symbols are used to help support Bradbury’s themes. In Fahrenheit 451, Ray Bradbury uses symbolism to emphasize the importance of knowledge and individuality in society. He believes that a society without these two characteristics would be a society on the brink of extinction. Clarisse is one of the most important characters in the book and she, herself, is a symbol. She symbolizes individuality and thinking differently. She is the exact opposite of the “normal” people in the dystopian world in which she lives. Her whole outlook on life and way of thinking is completely different
