Dr. Seuss
Dr. Seuss is well known for writing children’s books. He is also known for being really politically involved. Some of the books he wrote had underlying political themes. In this paper we are going to talk about some of the books where this occurs.
The Lorax is one of the most popular stories. It talks about deforestation and how humans destroy nature. The Once-ler symbolizes everyone else in America who doesn’t really care or do anything about the pollution and deforestation. We can see how the mood changes when the sky goes from bright blue to dark gray. This symbolizes that everything was happy and good until the Once-ler started cutting down trees. Then everything became sad and gloomy because nature was being destroyed.

This may seem like it’s just about a couple of little stories about a turtle who was king over all the other turtles in the pond. Yertle gets on top of a tower of the other turtles and proclaims that he is the king over all of the pond and everyone in it. In my research I have found that Yertle symbolizes Adolf Hitler. The other turtles represent things like freedom, justice, opinions, and equality. In the story Yertle is the tallest thing because he is stacked on top of a bunch of turtles. Just when you think that there is nothing higher than yertle, you turn to the next page and the moon is in the sky. Yertle realizes that the moon is taller than him and he demands that every turtle joins the stack so he can try and reach the moon to get on top of it. Eventually one of the turtles falls and everything crumbles to the ground. Yertle’s reign is over, symbolizing when Hitler’s reign ended.
The Cat in the Hat is one of Dr. Seuss’ most popular books by far. This book has many symbols in the story. First we will talk about the mom. This book was written in the 1950's. During that time the “Nuclear Family” was a very popular idea. In the story there is no father pictured or mentioned (meaning that she was either divorced or had a child out of wedlock), therefore not going along with the idea of a traditional family. On a side note most mother’s stayed at home during that time. But the mother is this book has to leave home and work for a living because there is no
When I was in 3rd grade, my teacher used to read us stories about Dr. Seuss and his adventures. The first book I read was Yertle the Turtle and it was the best book I read in 3rd grade. After we finish Yertle the Turtle, My favorite quote from this book is "I know, up on top you are seeing great sights, but down here at the bottom we, too, should have rights." we made Dr. Seuss hats. Dr. Seuss is more than nonsense words and rhyming.
There were differences between the author's mother and the author herself, especially on their choices. There were two instances in the article, between the author and her mother, and one incident of the author when she became a mother. First, was when Granados mother brought frogs from a
First is thought to be his most defining book “The Cat In the Hat.” Seuss wrote The Cat in the Hat because he was worried that children were not learning to read. Publishers were saying that kids were losing their interest on reading and that basic books like Dick and Jane were a major cause of children failing to read. William Spaulding, whom Seuss had worked with during the Second World War and who was then the director of Houghton Mifflin’s education division, challenged him to “Write me a story that first graders can’t put down!” He asked that Seuss limit the book’s vocabulary to no more than 250 different words, choosing those words from a list of 348.
The connection specifically connects the titular character to a key player in the war – Adolf Hitler. The war had ended three years prior to its publication and with the wounds of war still fresh, Seuss had written this story as a parallel to the rise of Hitler and his ultimate collapse. At the beginning of the tale, Yertle the Turtle is the king of the pond, but decides to increase his view in order to fulfill his desire to expand his kingdom further: "I'm ruler, of all that I see. But I don't see enough. That's the trouble with me."

In my opinion that this quote is important because someone should not be judged by what they believe in and how they choose to go on about their beliefs. They used symbolism in this quote by describing that he was crying while he was praying, giving you the image of a person doing the same. The impact of this quote could affect different people in different ways, depending on what you believe. Conveyance of theme (the point trying to get across) is that he was getting disturbed by the fact that this guy that he did not know, was asking him why he was crying when he was asking a question to someone that he was looking for an answer from. The tone of this quote could either be mad or sad because he is both and is showing both when saying “I answered,
The Impact of Dr. Seuss on American Culture “ Because when you stop and look around, this life is pretty amazing (Dr. Seuss).” When Theodor Seuss Geisel was born, life was not as easy as it is today. From war to civil rights movements, Seuss endured many influential american “battles”. Theodor Seuss Geisel grew up in a large German community where his family lived and worked.
Women in this time were expected to be the ones to take care of their children so even if there was an opportunity to get a job the wife normally couldn’t since most wives were stay-at-home wives. The husbands are normally seen as the man of the house and this was especially true in the late 1800s. They were known to be the ones who were in control of everything and the women had to listen to them because that was expected of them. So when their husbands didn’t allow them to obtain a job the wives had no choice but to listen to them. The husband preferred for their wives to take care of their child since there was nobody else that could take care of them and that was a norm for women.
Dr. Seuss once said, “Unless someone like you cares a whole awful lot, Nothing is going to get better. It's not. ”Dr. Seuss uses this quote in The Lorax and it shows that The Once-Ler didn’t care about the whole environment and he completely ruined it.
Dr. Seuss left a huge impact on children's literature and has immensely enhanced what children encounter when they read a children's book. Dr. Seuss explored new ways to change the way children's literature is written by adding techniques like rhyme and humor to add to his writing and to make it more fun and interesting. In most children's books now, one may find humor, a sense of fun, and many other literary techniques that boost writing. If not for Dr. Seuss, children's book may still be dull and not very interesting, leading to a less knowledgeable generation of kids who do not read and learn. Now any time a children's book is enjoyable and fun, one can thank Dr.
By making an example out of these animals; some of whom had apparently associated themselves with Snowball, other members of the working class do not want to speak against Napoleon, or the slain animals’ fate could also become theirs too. In this case, both psychological and physical fear control the animal’s actions and
Trying to gain freedom on the farm, the animals obtain a leader, Napoleon, who is much more harsh and stern than the former farm owner, Mr. Jones, has ever been. Symbolizing a ruler from the Soviet Union, Joseph Stalin, Napoleon brings the farm into a hole, they have a hard time getting out of. Napoleon kills various animals, and has also broken the Seven commandments the animals promise to abide by. In the beginning, the farm was run by Mr. Jones, who is later overpowered by the animals on the farm. To gain power, Napoleon starts to earn their trust by making it seem as if he is a trustworthy comrade.
Allusions allow him to convey hidden messages regarding Soviet Russia and its leaders. The majority of the characters in Animal Farm allude to powerful figures in Russia’s history. This novella presents different allusions which all lead up to the main allegorical theme. For example, Napoleon the leader of Animal Farm is an allusion to Joseph Stalin, similarly he uses attack dogs to subdue and keep the animals loyal. Furthermore Napoleon and Stalin were both manipulative dictators with a lust for power.
