T’ang Quartet – The epitome of longevity of Singapore wee ensembles

With the ambition of spreading the beauty of classical music, Singapore’s professional string quartet pioneer T'ang Quartet was founded in 1992. Before starting their professional career in 1999, the members met through their musical involvement in the Singapore Symphony Orchestra in the 1980s (Hong, 2010). The T’ang Quartet, consisting of cellist Leslie Tan, first violinist Ng Yu-Ying, second violinist Ang Chek Meng and violist Lionel Tan, made their debut in 2000 at the Singapore Arts Festival (Cheong, 2006).

This year, they have notably performed at the Armenian Church (Toh, 2017) and will be performing at SOTA Concert Hall (Nanda, 2017). In September 2006, they were given the honour to perform as the opening act for Singapore Biennale (Cheong, 2006). They were also invited to perform at the reopening of the Victoria Concert Hall after a four-year refurbishment in July 2014 (Huang, 2014). Moreover, they have participated in local festivals, more recently, the Singapore International Festival of Arts in 2015 (Tan, 2015) and 2016 (Nanda, 2016), and Singapore Botanic Gardens Heritage Festival in 2017 (Devi, 2017). Furthermore, they have won accolades both locally and internationally.
