There are many cultures in the world. Many countries, regions, religions, and many other things all have their own way of living. It is very hard to understand each other, especially when the common sence, or the manners are different. However, it is harder to find similarities between cultures. That could be one of the reasons why there are problems between countries, that we can’t understand each other’s. Finding the solution to these problems might also solve the problem over the world. In the first video, a man from a country outside Japan was observing the table manners to see what he is supposed to do at a Japanese lunch that he’s still not used to. However, even though he was trying to act like the Japanese, he was making many mistakes throughout the video. First, he was sitting with his knees above the table. In Japan, it is a very desrespectful gesture to sit with their knees above the table when eating. Secondly, as he saw others slurping in the somen (Japanese noodles) to their mouth when eating, he tried thinking that it is considered to be a good table manner in Japan. He made a big mistake because of the difference of understanding and culture. He met a women, and wanted to go closer to her. He helped her with her shopping bags, walked together, and finally he gave her a chrysanthemum flower. He wanted to tell her that he likes her with that flower, but giving her a chrysanthemum flower was a big mistake in that country. For the country that the man lives in, that flower could be a great gift to someone you like, or to express your intension. However, in the country that the women lives in, that was not a good gift to get. It seems that they are using those flowers when someone dies, in funerals.
