Culture is the characteristics and knowledge of a particular group of people, encompassing language, religion, cuisine, social habits, music and arts. (Zimmerman, 2017). Taiwan has a unique culture of people dating back for thousands of years. It is a small island located off the southeastern coast of China in between Japan and the Philippines. The country has over twenty-two million people and is the second most densely inhabited countries in the world. Socially Taiwan groups people into many classes from beggars to upper class depending on wealth; however, it is very in expensive to live there in general. There are three theories that state:
Tool and ceramic styles have been placed in the same traditions as those of Fujian and other mainland sites and suggest a northern origin. A third theory proposes that Taiwan is the homeland of Austronesian culture and language and the source of migrations throughout the region. (“Taiwan,” n.d.).
Aborigines that live there originated from the Austronesian culture, which derived from Taiwan about 6000 years ago. Chinese settlers, called the Hans, came in the seventeenth century were they settled making farmlands and communities. The Aborigines being native to the land drew conflict making it not very peaceful at times. In 1788, the country saw growth in the agriculture of rice and grain, which lead to a very violent era. In 1979, the United States signed relations ACT that makes a political commitment to the country making huge changes to the military. Taiwan’s military force for years continues to be enhanced from the U.S to help defend the ongoing Chinese threat that has been carried on through the years with the main goal of taking the homeland. However, since the U.S continued to enhance Taiwan’s military Beijing backed off in fear that they would aid in the fight if provoked enough. Over the years, Taiwan has struggled to have the capabilities to deter China if there was an attack. Air Defense Operations are more in the Aircraft fighters that the country has. If there were to be a missile threat, they would not have the capabilities to defend themselves in time for the U.S to gather its forces in aid to help defend the people. Today Taiwan has, with the increasing missile threat that China has, has forced themselves to rethink how to defend against such attack. Taiwan chose to use Surface to Air Missiles as a temporary but not an indefinite fix to the weakness of the Air Defense Strategy that the country lacks to defend against China’s missile
