The second reason is too lazy to exercise and do not enough effort to control food intake in each meal. They think that exercise is not the key to keeping the weight down. And most of the teenage girls like to eat sweets that contain sugar such as the donut, chocolate, candy, and cookies all of these are cause weight gain. They will get many side effects in short term such as stimulation of the heart, sleeplessness, constipation, and increase blood pressure. College, although it is an esteemed institution acknowledged for its cultivation of young minds, is an establishment notorious for the expansion of its students’ waistlines. The infamous “Freshman Fifteen” is a nightmare turned reality for thousands of incoming college students nationwide. Hoards of fledgling undergraduates struggle to maintain a healthy physique under the stresses of their hectic academic and social schedules. Late-night snacking during cramming sessions, deficient exercise regimens, and overconsumption of high-calorie dining hall foods are additional factors that attribute to students packing on the pounds. Although freshman weight gain is commonly widespread today, it is not absolutely inevitable.
Asthma, diabetes, heart disease, joint problems, depression, and even death are all effects of a deadly epidemic that is surging through the adolescents of America (Johnson). This epidemic is known as obesity. It has become the second leading cause of death in America, simply because it can lead to so many other health problems (Johnson). This devastating epidemic needs to be taken seriously. This can be done by examining the problem itself, the causes and effects of obesity, and figuring out some at-home and overall solutions.
Behavior and environment has a big role to play in obesity too. Studies show that less than 50% of adults in America get a healthy amount physical activity. This means that grownups cannot get enough calories out and end up gaining weight because they choose not to live healthy or they have a disease. Also modern technology influences obesity because it makes labor easier. Computers and televisions keep Americans on the couch all day.
Kids gain weight from just sitting around and doing nothing. Kids these days sit in school and get no exercise and at home, they just sit on electronics and do nothing. One piece of evidence is exercise is good. Many kids deal with obesity, but even kids at good weight levels gain from activity, and need it for good health. The outdoors is the best for children to lose weight, practice physical skills and get the pure happiness of movement.
Most Americans today either have a smartphone or tablet or even a laptop where they can easily access whatever information they like. Google has been best for that and when a young girl has that access they can see anything and everything they want, the latest trends in fashion and make-up tutorials so they can keep up with the now. Common theme with all of these is how beautiful these people look and how thin they are. They follow their favorite celebrity on Instagram and see how great they look and know that it look good they have to look like them. There are now set beauty goals that girls look up too, whether the parents approve or not, and are comparing themselves too.

By having such presumptions about their self-image, teenagers change the way they see themselves and in turn, cause problems for themselves. “I’m so fat, why can’t I be skinny just like her!” “How does she get the perfect body, while I’m stuck with all of this fat!” These statements are common among teenage girls of today’s society. Social media of today shows unreal pictures of photoshopped models and the “perfect life”. This leads to discontent of young women with their body and lives.
Responsibilities change when at college and this can cause stress and weight change. A change in diet and not eating properly can cause someone to gain weight. Not to mention that sleeping habits change dramatically when you go to college. The first thing that comes to people’s minds when they hear “freshman 15” is drinking alcohol, but this isn’t the only factor in the problem. This is a problem for these future students, and there isn’t just one solution to it.

Eating disorders are very common in teenagers especially girls as popular culture is inclined to portray being thin as how all young girls should be.(mayoclinic 1998-2016) even if they are thin they can still believe they are fat and this can lead to them being obsessed with their weight. Puberty can also be a major problem for teenagers as their body changes and also their hormones are changing all the time. (Girls health may 2014) Intellectual; because Linda is being bullied and told she is fat she has very low self esteem.
As teens grow and start to learn how to take care of themselves, they get simple jobs at retail or fast food chains to get some sort of cash flow. With these type of jobs, it gets even easier for the teenagers to become obese. In other words, with the teens already at the fast food chain, it is easy to get a "snack" on break and throughout the working shift. Retail, on the other hand, has long hours that take up afternoons and part of the night. With the cheap fast food chains open at these hours, going through the drive-through on the way home becomes a nasty habit to teens.
Body shaming is one of the biggest problems in today’s generation. It is the practice of making critical, potentially humiliating comments about a person’s body, size or weight. It is obvious that all of us come in different shapes and sizes but society and the media puts a lot of pressure on us with beauty stereotypes and standards to deem some as healthy and some not. Recently, there has been a lot of controversy recently about body image and body shaming, especially among teenagers. Body shaming is an extremely personal concept and can take a negative toll on a person.
