Attributable to the overwhelming support for Aideed, many of the locals became sensors and devices for early warning, and every rooftop within the city became a lookout and a launch pad for a surface to air defense. The locals were well equipped with situation awareness capabilities, and even though the technology was at the lowest level, it was still effective. The clear lesson from the local rebels’ preparedness proved that this was not the first battle for them and that the local rebels were very efficient at executing anti-aircraft operations. “The Battle of Mogadishu was also not the first time a UH-60 Blackhawk helicopter had been shot down by the rebel groups.” (Ecklund, …show more content…
The mission was named “Operation Restore Hope.” The battle of Mogadishu forced politicians to adjust our foreign policies that would prevent American troops to partake in any peacekeeping mission. The "Presidential Decision Directive 25" was created due to the battle in Somalia which prevent the United States from intervening in other countries’ conflicts. The Battle of Mogadishu is an example of why all factors must be considered before international intervention and all possible consequences if not executed correctly. It led to the rewriting of various military doctrine that would provide more clarity of how US troops should operate when faced with certain situations. The goal for diplomacy is for countries to utilize political discussion to settle their differences and war should be a last resort. While the United States met its target, many were killed and wounded in the effort to support this

General Patton, in the Battle of the Bulge exercised the principles of mission command to the fullest and they yielded significantly great results for the Allied forces. General Patton employed each of the principles in different ways in order to ensure that the German surprise attack did not significantly set back the Allied forces in the war. Good points. When diplomacy fails, and a nation does not wish to partake in war, what actions can be taken to avoid sending troops into war? The United States has experienced war many times throughout the nation’s history, and the internal toll that war can be detrimental if not entirely supported by its citizens. Protests, peace movements, political turmoil, decreased support for combat troops and diminished support for the sitting president are some issues, which a war can draw out from the homeland. Covert actions can assist in the avoidance of war by seeking to gain or sway influence or spark actions in other countries.
