Allwright defines ‘teacher training’ as the process through which teachers acquire and master ‘the necessary practical skills involved in being a classroom language teacher, starting with such basic things as knowing how to speak to the class so that everybody can hear what you are saying.’ Training, then, refers to habit formation by teaching or practice so as to become skilled, disciplined fit to perform properly. That is, the internalization of teaching rituals that will facilitate the process of language learning and/or acquisition. In this view, most of the subjects taught at the training colleges (language skills, phonology and grammar; practicum and methodology; didactics) and the current workshops on didactics (‘How to…’; ‘Succeed in…’; …show more content…
Though I was on the first pilot course (Candidate 002) in 1998 - and I suppose the programme must have been improved since then - this course does provide an in-depth work for experienced teachers’ on the ‘understanding of the principles and practice of English language teaching and thereby help improve overall performance in the classroom, as well as preparing candidates for more senior teaching or educational management roles’. The course content is organized in three modules focused on: the background to teaching and learning English in a range of contexts and is assessed through a written examination; planning and teaching lessons and selecting and using resources and materials and is assessed through a portfolio of coursework and an externally assessed classroom observation; and designing courses to meet learners’ needs in specific contexts and is assessed through an extended written assignment. Eventually, when candidates like me fail to pass all the course components, a referral assignment has to be done. In my case, this three-part assignment focused on reading skills at an advanced. Part I consisted of a 2000/2500-word paper discussing general problems inherent in a given skill for adult learners of English and one particular aspect to be dealt with in the externally assessed lesson, which should provide theoretical and practical evidence regarding the level chosen and any …show more content…
Education, hence, refers to the knowledge we possess about a certain field of study. It combines, according to Allwright, the relevant language and educational knowledge a teacher needs. In my case my initial teacher training progamme core content comprised pedagogical subjects like: history of the Argentinian Education, Psychology and Pedagogy; subjects that helped you delineate the sociocultural background to the English language and culture: American and British history, American and British geography, British and American literature, and history of the English language; and subjects that provided you with a core ethical framework: theology, philosophy, ethics, and
In the wise words of Malcolm X, “Education is the passport to the future, for tomorrow belongs to those who prepare for it today.” Education is the act of giving and receiving valuable information. Education leads to advanced knowledge and improves one's life choices by providing important experiences. Literacy is key to expanding knowledge and gaining the ability to self-express. Education is an important instrument that empowers individuals to break free from unfortunate situations, as well as challenge stereotypes they may be faced with.
Obtaining certification in a specialty area is one way a nurse confirms she has achieved the necessary knowledge and skill within that practice area to be considered above average (Rauen, Shumate, & Gendron-Trainer, 2016). In order to realize my goal of board certification as a master’s prepared informatics nurse, I must first gain the required education, expertise, and competence through classes and practice experiences. This paper will discuss how each MSN core course, each MSN specialty course, and each potential practice experience will improve upon the competencies needed to obtain board certification in informatics after obtaining my MSN from American Sentinel University. MSN Core Courses MSN Role Development (N501PE)
Education is not one in a restricted classroom but is obtainable in the real world. Education is sought through self-motivation and open mindedness to learning new concepts. Being able to take control of your own ability of what you want to learn
Heading One: Artifacts This program gave me various opportunities to put into practice my professional understandings on what it is to teach students who are learning English as a second language. The program allowed me to grow as an educator through the implementation of the various program outcomes since thoughtful planning and articulation of such planning was done by our artifacts. The focus was on six program outcomes and each artifact was aligned to one of the outcome. Program Outcome One: Two assignments completed in the course Linguistics for TESOL fulfilled this program outcome.
Every student gets the same passage, passages that are meant to teach them how to read. But these passages are actually doing a poor job of helping them master the skill, the transition from learning to read and reading to learn is not that great because the programs are not helping the students build a vast vocabulary. Furthermore, some teachers rely on these program as their sole teaching method, hindering the students’ development. For ELL students to learn the skill they need to be able to understand the vocabulary that the passages include.
What is education? By definition, education means, “the act or process of imparting or acquiring general knowledge, developing the powers of reasoning and judgment, and generally of preparing oneself or others intellectually for mature life” (dictionary.com). In, “The Essentials of a Good Education”, Diane Ravitch argues that education is not what it used to be; education’s primary focus used to be about teaching citizens their rights and responsibilities. Currently, that is not the case. Sadly, the definition from dictionary.com does not satisfy the actual definition of today’s education system.
Education is the process in which someone is being taught and acquiring knowledge. The knowledge we acquire prepares us for the future that is waiting upon us. The purpose of education is to produce people who are capable of making their own decisions and think for themselves. We discover ourselves through education and discover what we must develop on. In the quote, “The paradox of education is precisely this - that as one begins to become conscious one begins to examine the society in which he [one] is being educated.”

First, “Education” is defined as “The process of receiving or giving systematic instruction, especially at a school or university” by Oxford dictionary (Oxford dictionary). More specific, in a work of John Dewey, an influential American philosopher, psychologist, and educational reformer, education is explained as: The process of facilitating learning, or the acquisition of knowledge, skills, values, beliefs, and habits. Educational methods include storytelling, discussion, teaching, training, and directed research. Education frequently takes place under the guidance of educators, but learners may also educate themselves.
One type is worldly education and the second type is what is referred to as “Educare” (Jumsai, 2005). Education will equip a person with knowledge that enables to earn a living, and to become fame and great. However, “Educare” will bring out the latent human values from within and will transform the person into a good human with character. Education is related to educating the head whereas Educare is related to education of the Heart. Both education and Educare are necessary important in imparting learning in the human totality.
The biggest thing that we, as Americans, take for granted is our access to education. In many countries, education is considered a privilege. But, what is education? “Education is a group’s formal system of teaching knowledge, values, and skills. […] It was intended to develop the mind”

Mainly the question I have learned to seek out is "Who" and "What". What does it mean to be educated? Some scholars may state it means to attend various Ivy League schools in which you are taught prestigious subjects in order to find a prosperous career. Additionally, they may state that education is having a plethora of degrees and written accomplishments. My question is, who decides what education is and which form of education is important or relevant.
