Every language teacher should have been aware and fascinated about the relation between teaching methods and students’ academic performance. In the field of education, especially in teaching seems that there opens the gate of the learning process. It is not a secret that successful language learning depends on different factors that not only related to the teacher, but to the methods used by them which takes significant role in student’s learning and academic achievement. It was proved that teachers of the 21st century face challenging task related to the using and selecting better teaching methods crucially now than ever before. As Gibbs and Jenkins [9] argued that the context of class and society has changed, but the teaching methods have remained unchanged. Numerous resent studies attempted to the issues that affect teaching methods and student learning today as educational technology integration, teacher’s roles, and classroom environment, length of the lesson, class size and learner’s attitude. …show more content…
For thousands of years, the search for better teaching method to provide the best learning has been the goal of education. However, teaching methods can’t be used for different situation at a time. Flexibility is crucial in implementing teaching method in the class. As far as all teachers are different, the strategies they, and the way they use will depend on the context and situation of their class [15] in addition to their personal values and biases. Every teacher should be interested in the impact of teaching method on student’s learning. There have been done different studies to measure teaching methods. Robinson and his followers [15] have conducted the case study on several teaching methods in schools to explore reasons for their use, perceptions and effectiveness. The result of their study suggested that different language teaching methods do influence teaching
Due to Reich’s personal experience as a teacher, he understands that while it is a simpler solution for a teacher to banish classroom technology, he argues that it is not only up to the teachers for changes to be made. He affirms through his own experience that there needs to be support from the university administrators to train and educate instructors of the importance of classroom technology in the 21st century, which appeals to the faculty he is
Hi Bailee, I agree with you that we need to change the way we teach because technologies got more advanced and it would be helpful if we ultilize it in our teaching routine. Technologies can also help students be more engage in the classroom instead of listening to boring lecture. This will help entertain students while improve education.
In this paper, three dissertations will be discussed and reflect on the topic selected. Technology impacts education and can enhance student learning. Technology is also known for motivating teachers by expanding the material content, which reflects on different devices. The evolution of technology plays a role on the classrooms by creating a positive environment for the teachers and students.
It is a viable tool for addressing the maximum participation of the child and can be a catalyst to ensure effective learning. Effective teachers use an array of teaching strategies because there is no single, universal approach that suits all situations. Different strategies used in different combinations with different groupings of students will improve learning outcomes. Some strategies are better suited to teaching skills and fields of knowledge than others. Some strategies are better suited to certain student backgrounds, learning styles and
The United States is a place of freedom. We are a mixing pot that unifies as one. Many religions, cultures, and languages make their home in the Unites States. Many foreigners see the U.S. as an opportunity to seek better lives and education, but when it comes to foreigners and native-born non-English speakers that do not yet know English, it becomes a little more difficult to go about an average day let alone make a better future. Children in school often become English Language Learners, or ELL, to assimilate to the American standards.

Those five ways include i) whole class teaching, ii) group work (teacher-led), iii) group work (student-led), iv) one-to-one (teacher and student) and v) one-to-one (student pairs). Whole class teaching seems to be the most important way in my class and I can be very sure in any other class since it is the main method uses to convey knowledge to students. Students get very comfortable and happy doing group work but there is a little case in which student is prefer to do individual work. No matter which way is selected, indirectly, students are actually developing their critical thinking. It is proved when students submit their work or project.
According to Woronov (1994), computers themselves do not automatically change the nature of teaching and learning, but that it is the way the teachers use the technology that creates a conducive learning environment. If computers are not used effectively then students lose out on a promising
There are many examples that show proper use of technology paths, the way for a more constructive instructing and provide enhanced learning results. I also agree to the fact that the teachers and students must collaborate to achieve an effective outcome. A question was raised about how a classroom might change or adapt when a computer is integrated into the curriculum and there were five stages about technology adaption in the classroom. Which are the Familiarization, Utilization, Integration, Reorientation, and Evolution.
Learning a second language at a younger age is beneficial Most little kids first day of school is when they are approximately five years old, and about to enter kindergarten. Kids go to school from about age five till graduation from high school at about age eighteen. Most schools focus on the basic core subjects, such as math, reading, science and history. Until junior high or high school, foreign language is not even offered.
“You can’t see other people’s point of view when you have only one language,” declared psycholinguist, Frank Smith. Just as it is mentioned in this quote, foreign language is important; therefore, people should learn a foreign language at an early age. When learning a foreign language at an early age, it helps people to concentrate and increase comprehension skills. Also, at a young age, the mind is fresh, so the person can take in more information and can easily master a foreign language. In addition, most secondary schools, universities, and jobs require a foreign language to be known.
I will be flexible and open to changing my teaching style whenever it is needed. It is about what works for the student. Whatever method is chosen, it will not be the teacher talking and the kids passively listening. Students should be encouraged to reflect on the information at hand and think critically. The methods should be multicultural, effective, active and democratic.
I believe as teachers of English language we first get our understanding of the English teaching methods and techniques that would later affect our decisions about teaching our own students long before than official academic training begins. In fact, I, as a non-native speaker of English language, have spent at least twelve years learning it, which also means twelve years observing my teachers’ methods and strategies. Therefore, I would first like to describe my experience as a learner of English, then proceed with describing my personal teaching experience and conclude with a reflection on how these influences shaped my beliefs about language and language learning. Traditionally, teacher in Russia is regarded as an authority figure, and learners tend to rely on them to a large extent, therefore approaches that Russian professors adopt are mostly
TRADITIONAL TEACHING METHODS TO TEACH WITHN THE CONTEXT OF HIGHER EDUCATION Teaching methods refers to the general principles, pedagogy and management strategies used to classroom instruction. The choice to teaching methods depends on what fits educational philosophy, classroom demographic, subject area and school mission statement.
