Language Teaching Methods Essay

Every language teacher should have been aware and fascinated about the relation between teaching methods and students’ academic performance. In the field of education, especially in teaching seems that there opens the gate of the learning process. It is not a secret that successful language learning depends on different factors that not only related to the teacher, but to the methods used by them which takes significant role in student’s learning and academic achievement. It was proved that teachers of the 21st century face challenging task related to the using and selecting better teaching methods crucially now than ever before. As Gibbs and Jenkins [9] argued that the context of class and society has changed, but the teaching methods have remained unchanged. Numerous resent studies attempted to the issues that affect teaching methods and student learning today as educational technology integration, teacher’s roles, and classroom environment, length of the lesson, class size and learner’s attitude.

For thousands of years, the search for better teaching method to provide the best learning has been the goal of education. However, teaching methods can’t be used for different situation at a time. Flexibility is crucial in implementing teaching method in the class. As far as all teachers are different, the strategies they, and the way they use will depend on the context and situation of their class [15] in addition to their personal values and biases. Every teacher should be interested in the impact of teaching method on student’s learning. There have been done different studies to measure teaching methods. Robinson and his followers [15] have conducted the case study on several teaching methods in schools to explore reasons for their use, perceptions and effectiveness.
