Spending late nights grading, dealing with parents, a teacher’s salary isn’t sufficient for the broad job descriptions they are responsible to meet. Although it takes someone with a loving heart to be a teacher, they are suppose to teach what will become of the future. Therefore wouldn’t they have the most important job? In addition to be a successful teacher, first teachers have to go school themselves. Moreover after comparing South Texas College, Texas State University and University of Rio Grande Valley based on my criteria of tuition cost,location, and strength of program, University of Rio Grande Valley would be my best choice in helping me pursue a career in interdisciplinary studies.

All teachers should strive for what can be considered to be a “good teacher.” A good teacher can be defined as someone who a pushes their students to do their best while at the same time trying to make learning interesting and fun. Being positive or negative a teacher can have a great effect on the life of a child. Teachers, especially at the elementary schools, must be very creative with their teaching styles. Not every child learns the same way. Teachers must be knowledgeable a range of studies, but must also comprehend how to present more topics to elementary aged school students. It is the second largest Hispanic-serving institution in the nation, with an emphasis on educating 21st-century leaders and professionals who are culturally fluent and have a deep understanding of the perspectives, languages, and values of different cultures” (University of Rio Grande Valley). During student teaching, they work with a mentor teacher and get experience teaching students in a classroom setting. To become a teacher a four year degree is needed “bachelor’s degree” and a state certification license is needed. Obtaining a elementary school certification proves that a teacher has the experience to positively impact the lives of his or her students. With the concern of the budget for future teachers there is also the possibility for the state to gain more money, leading to additional employment growth for middle school teachers. However, with many teachers soon reaching retirement age, there may also be a dramatic increase in job opportunities for those graduating from college, as the older teachers jobs will need to be replaced. In summary, there will be a need for teachers over the next several years, and as long as there is money that the government has in the budget, there will be an increase in the job opportunities for those who are hoping to secure a job in this profession. “Middle school teachers held about 630,300 jobs in 2016”(Summary). For sometime I’ve wanted to become a teacher and while expressing this desire my parents, friends, and even some teachers were skeptical or advised against me becoming a teacher. While some of their reasons may be true, I want to change the perception of teachers and the profession starting with the way I will teach my students, the future of this country. A liberal arts education will give me a chance to teach my students not only the subject they are learning but also about the world around them. With the way I teach my students I hope their parents begin to see teachers in a different way as well. The first part of people’s lives is spent with teachers that shape and lead children to become the leaders of tomorrow’s world.
The first being administrative data from New York State on program completers, program and institutional data on program structure, faculty, and curriculum. An interview with program directors of field experiences and a survey from a division of teachers who completed preservice teacher education in the spring and summer of 2004. A majority of the survey revolved around asking teachers about their experience preparation. This involved field work, course work, and preparing for reading and mathematics teaching. I believe there are many skills and attributes that are necessary to be an outstanding teacher. First and foremost, I believe a teacher should be a nurturing and patient person who has leadership skills. Teachers should provide an environment where students feel safe to express themselves by creating a classroom where students feel a sense of belonging, celebrating diversity. Strong classroom management strategies with positive reinforcements are necessary for a productive classroom. Teachers need to be clear of classroom procedures, allowing the classroom to run smoothly.
