1.1.3. RATIONALE This research targets technical managers of IT organizations with a development facility in India. The rationale for this study is not only to provide focus on technical manager community but also various effectiveness drivers. Gallagher et al. (2010) infers that in IT industry both technical and non-technical skills are important but the most critical skills for managerial effectiveness are non-technical skills. In context of technical roles, often the attention given to technical skills is much higher than the “soft” skills. Measuring impact of EI on managerial effectiveness 6. To construct a model identifying various attributes their inter-relationships and respective impact on overall managerial effectiveness. The idea behind our total approach is that the technical managers will grow into what they are capable of becoming, provided we create awareness in them about EI and the ecosystem and organizations create the proper conditions for that growth of intelligence. It is about exploring the linkages and relationships between EI and managerial effectiveness to provide holistic view on expectations from technology role holders. 1.3. EI measurement – This would be achieved through available, reliable and valid instrument. Identification is achieved after due comparison of contemporary and established EI measuring instruments. This approach helps in focusing on analysis of EI impact rather than development of instrument itself and b. Effectiveness measurement – Since this is a unique study covering wide spectrum of effectiveness attributes, an exclusive instrument would be developed to measure those attributes and overall effectiveness.
