Environmental, Culture, and Technology
Technology is something that always been around and it continues to develop to make life as we know it a little bit easier. Though technology is far more advanced than it ever has been, it has always been in play. What we consider simple or obsolete now was once upon a time the greatest technological advance that man has ever seen. Yet, technology may not always be the most appropriate answer for whatever concern is being presented to the world. The technology that we have today also causes major environmental problems. This is also something that is not new to man. Whatever changes that man makes to technology, has a direct correlation to an environment effect. One example is the destruction of Aldous Huxley’s homeland in England. On page 521, Reilly says that the formerly luscious valley is now overrun with weeds and other forms of brush. He stated that the farmers introduced a disease known as myxomatosis and this single handedly wiped out the entire rabbit population. The rabbits were no longer there to eat the vegetation and

When man goes into the forest to gain the materials they ultimately destroy the homes to many animals and other organisms. This eventually changes the entire ecology of that particular area of the land (Reilly, 2013, p. 522). One of the main forms of travel in the early years was by sea. At this time man did not have the materials like what we have to day to make their modes of transportation. They knew they needed wood and they knew that the wood came from trees. By solving one problem (the boats), they caused a greater problem (the ecology). Just like the people of Easter Island driving their plants and animals to extinction, the destruction of their forest and ultimately the over all destruction of their society (Reilly, 2013, p.
Nature which was also a food source such as trees and plants were removed or destroyed. Waterways were polluted by the manure from large animals. This reduced the amount of food they could receive, collect and obtain which led to famine and starvation in some of the more remote areas. Indigenous people were lucky if they lived in fertile areas near the coast as these areas had
The water was unclean, droughts and prairie fires ruined their crops, and
Had they not been so lucky to have found this strain of tobacco they would have been fighting their extinction. Farming tobacco was very labor intensive and did not make up for all of the agony prior to the
The King Kamehameha III had noticed that the hawaiian population was dieing out and foreigners were taking over the hawaiian islands. Whalers and traders had the idea that they buy the lands and challenge the rights of the chiefs. Kamehameha did not want non natives owning land. He divided the land, 1,000,000 acres to kamehameha and 1,500,000 acres for government. The land that Kamehameha owned was called the crown land and the government.
Ignorance is bliss. In the book Fahrenheit 451 by Ray Bradbury he tries to send readers a message that is saying knowing everything isn 't always good. We shouldn 't always try to know everything because sometimes the truth hurts or it causes pain and misery. It warned what too much knowledge could do to us and the harm it could cause our world. He wants his readers to get the message that the world may be a better place without advancements in technology.
Also their dense forests brought them lumber, tar, and resin from the pine
Considering that the elimination of trees increases the amount of runoff water in the area, places were being transformed into swamps. This in turn lead to diseases, bugs, irregular drainage patterns, and flooding (Cronon 125). The elimination of trees also, “aided in the reduction of edge-dwelling animal species”, affected the species composition, caused temperatures to fluctuate, made, “flooding [become] more common and stream levels...vary” (Cronon 126). Subsequently, the Europeans took over the Indians’ land, pushing them onto bare, dry, and worn out land, “probably a place where the soil had
The men cut down trees to plant food. They made traps, nets, and
In the beginning of the story the land had clean air, healthy trees and a sustainable environment but soon turned into a lonely place covered in pollution and the lifeless haze of abandonment. Once-ler in “the lorax” cut down all of the trees to make his thneeds and didn’t replant the truffula tree seeds. The same thing happened on Easter Island, the Polynesians used the Hauhau and Toromiro trees to help transport their gigantic stone heads across the islands and soon all of the trees were gone. By doing that, thee land in “the lorax” and in “Easter Island” ended up empty and lonely. The air was not clean anymore and the land was trashed by pollution and animals did not have any place to live each day.
Furthermore, the technologies that we are using have a great impact on the society. Technology has changed the way people live. This phenomenon was started from the time industrial revolution happened, where technology finally could be produced massively.
They could of just destroyed themselves like a war like the another website says. The word croatoan is a native american tribe which was what was carved into the tree. Another thing is that when white was gone he may have took more time than he needed so the people of the lost colony went searching for there own things and got lost . Also maybe without leadership the colony just
In “Evolutionary History: Prospectus for a New Field”, Edmund Russell argues there is a distinct value in considering evolution when attempting to understand environmental history, and that this value lies in evolution being a valid explanation for the changes in both human and non-human actors. These actors are both changed over time in an evolutionary relationship that continually intertwines. Too fully understand the history behind the relationships between humans and the environment, one must understand that each places pressure on the other resulting in change over time. Evolutionary history is an attempt to not merely add to the discipline of evolutionary biology but to comprise many powerful ideas to construct a fuller understanding of history. The expansion of evolutionary history has allowed for a deeper understanding into the relationship between nature and human.
We all use it. Whether it is a text to your significant other, a hard work day on the job, a quick drive to the store, even something as simple as going to church, no matter where we are we always seem to be using technology. Technology is a growing issue with each passing day and even though there are positive effects it also has its negative side. It affects the things we do such as communication and playing, but most importantly affects our brain with our daily thought process. Today, Im going to inform you on how technology has affected you and your daily lifestyle habits.
The ever-changing environment that surrounds us is another influence of mine. The environment is currently suffering from pollution and we humans are creating a mass of it. Emissions from manufacturing plants, the burning of fossil fuels, and household and farm chemicals are all ways humans are polluting the environment. And this issue has brought upon great concern for me as well as many others.
They imply that life would be hard to live with the lack of new technologies, however, it becomes ironic because life is already at risk due to technology. Making technological advances and preserving the environment and human health will not be possible because of the pollution resulting of the waste output, the depletion of natural resources and the global warming resulting of the emission of carbon dioxide. To begin with, the waste output of the new technologies pollutes the lands, the water and the air of the earth. An average computer screen contains up to 8 pounds of lead and 2 to 5 percent of the trash in American landfills belong to electronics waste.
