One of the major torpedo squadron in Torpedo Squadron 8 launched off the USS Hornet on the morning of June 4, 1942, they were the first bombers to go up against the rather formidable Japanese Navy at Midway. The Battle of Midway ended on June 7, 1942 . Unfortunately for the Japanese ,U.S. intelligence broke the Japanese naval code. Which lead them to their success in winning the Battle of Midway . The advance machinery the U.S. used in the Battle of Midway also lead them to their success .
Khrushchev considered this justifiable because of the American missiles positioned in Turkey. The support for Cuba provided the Soviets with several political and diplomatic advantages, and became an immediate threat in the eyes of the American government. On October 14, a U2 spy plane flying over Cuba took pictures of potential nuclear missiles that were examined by many government officials. Eventually, the missiles were deemed not nuclear, but still capable of reaching the United States. Two days later, President Kennedy was briefed on the dire situation and immediately assembled the National Security Council to determine how to address the issue.
The 1960 U-2 incident happened during the Cold War on 1 May 1960 (just around my grandma’s birthday), during the presidency of Dwight D. Eisenhower and the premiership of Nikita Khrushchev when a United States of America U-2 spy plane was shot down in Soviet airspace. The aircraft that was flown by Central Intelligence Agency. Pilot Francis Gary Powers was performing aerial reconnaissance when it was hit by an S-75 Dvina (SA-2 Guideline) surface-to-air missile and crashed in Sverdlovsk (in Union Soviet Socialists Republic). The United States of America thought they were going to hide their initial intent but didn’t really succeed. All of this took place near Aramil in the Soviet Union.
Finally, the technology and weapons utilized by the Macedonians enabled them to be better equipped in battle than other armies. It also allowed them to sustain fewer casualties and losses. Peter Connolly and numerous other historians agree that advanced technology such as pikes, sarissas, shields, swords, helmets, and chest plates were either invented, developed, or modified to fit the needs of the Macedonians and allow the army to defeat enemy armies like the Persians and Greeks (Conolly 60-61). Arrian in his book gives proof of how Alexander’s men were often better equipped than those they were facing during his recount of the Battle of the Granicus, where the Macedonians gained the advantage “both through their superior strength and military
These aerial observers were greatly used and were an undeniable force of the overall mission. The aerial observers, also known as “Flying Eyes,” came from the 82nd Airborne Division Artillery. These observers called for fire, giving target locations and battlefield intelligence, from the back seat of a small airplane, L-4 Cub. They used a SCR-300 FM radio to maintain communication with the units on the ground. Any time the enemy saw the L-4 Cub airplane, they knew a barrage of artillery was sure to follow.
Ender’s Impact “If you try and you lose then it isn’t your fault. But if you don’t try and we lose, then it’s all your fault.” In the second war against the buggers, also known as aliens, a lot of pressure rested on Ender Wiggins shoulders. During the first war, commander Mazer Rackham was able to defeat the buggers and keep them from destroying earth. In order to find the next Mazer, Col. Graff initiated a new military program. When Ender enters the program, he shows impressive skill and dodges each challenge that is thrown at him.

According to document D in 1962 “The soviets began shipping 40,000 troops, 60 missiles and 158 nuclear warheads to communist Cuba.” However, U.S spy planes soon identified evidence of the nuclear missile sites being rapidly installed in Cuba. As a result, the U.S quarantined (set a zone around) Cuba where ships carrying weapons could not go. If Cuba had missiles, they could threaten other countries and make them submit to Cuba which would result in them becoming communist. Numerous Soviet transports stopped dead in the water just outside the quarantine line. In April 1963, the United States and the Soviet Union came to an agreement.
Although Mitchell’s strong advocacy for aerial warfare led to his Court Marshall he publicly criticized the United States Army and Navy up until his death, Mitchell paved the way for the Air Force as he understood the importance of the war in the skies. It is clear why he is viewed as “the father of the Air Force”. Modern warfare such as the air campaign of the Gulf War, also known as the 1991 bombing of Iraq, was an all-embracing aerial campaign that only lasted from the month of January to February, further illustrates Mitchells point. Coalition forces flew over 100,000 sorties dropping 88,500 tons of bombs, extensively destroying vital military targets and civilian infrastructure. The priority for Coalition forces was the destruction of Iraqi C2 nodes, Scud missile launch pads and storage areas, telecommunications and radio facilities, and airfields.
Troops use DMR’s to pick off troops from far distances so the weapon needs to be accurate. They ended up coming up with the M14 and the M14 shoots a 7.62 bullet and this makes it a really accurate weapon. This weapon can be compared to the SCAR because of its extreme accuracy except the DMR is semi-automatic and the SCAR is fully automatic and can change caliber bullet, but the DMR cannot change the caliber of the bullet it shoots. Most special operations soldiers use a kit called SOPMOD on the M14. This kit consists of a 4x day scope to hit targets from far distances, vertical forward grip to increase the accuracy of the weapon and decrease the recoil of the weapon to make sure if the shooter misses the target at first he can line up a second shot quickly, a M203 grenade launcher mount that can be taken off or put back on for a certain mission requirements, a suppressor to keep undetected by the enemThe Marine Corps is also making DMR’s, Designated Marksman Rifles, to help give troops support on the ground.
Some vehicular advancements in the military were the repeating rifle and the submarine. Pre-Civil War, infantry soldiers usually used muskets that only held one bullet at a time. The muskets had a range of approximately 250 yards. However, a soldier trying to aim and shoot accurately
The bombing of Darwin was one of Australia’s greatest disasters. It took place just before ten o’clock on 19 February 1942 Japanese aircrafts flew over Darwin and began the first two attacks that day. Early 1942 Japan had already taken over the Central Pacific. Darwin was a base for reinforcements for the Allies such as Philippines, East Indies, Netherlands and America. Ships and aircrafts passed through frequently.
Air defense artillery brigade are capable of deploying worldwide, on short notice, to provide air defense force protection from air breathing threats and tactical ballistic missiles, as well as allowing freedom. A bombing campaign known as operation Rolling Thunder, the United States military aircraft attacked targets throughout North Vietnam. The bombing was intended to put military pressure on North Vietnams communist leaders and reduce war against U.S supported government of South Vietnam. This operation marked the first American assault on North Vietnamese territory. It also represented major expansion of United States involvement in the Vietnam War.
The spent shell casing appeared to be brass. I looked closer at the head stamp of the shell casing. I observed the markings on the head stamp with “7.62x39” and MFS on them. Through my training and experience in law enforcement and as a gun enthusiast, I know this caliber is used by an AK-47 or SKS style of assault rifle. However, this cartage is not limited to just this two styles of assault rifles.
