According to Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences, the lack of social contact continued to lead to early death among 6,500 men and women tracked over a seven-year period (Los Angeles Times). This is just one of the signs of how technology is limiting creativity and is taking over social contact. Technology is such an integral part of people’s daily lives as well as being really distracting which causes people to lack their personal hobbies and face-to-face contact. Technology is the reason people today don’t have enough social skills and are seen with technological devices instead. With internet in the way, not many people can be original with their own creativity. A quote from a reader states, “...Most platforms seem to be more about reblogging/retweeting/reposting other people’s creations. Studies show that many people’s critical thinking and analysis has declined as the majority uses the internet daily. The article by Stuart Wolpert states, “Studies show that reading develops imagination, induction, reflection and critical thinking, as well as vocabulary. Reading for pleasure is the key to developing these skills. Students today have more visual literacy and less print literacy”(Is Technology Producing a Decline in Critical Thinking and Analysis?). Video games and being on a phone causes print literacy, therefore, it is easier to grab a book and have more visual literacy that will help future generations much better as well. In fact, the visual skills have improved, reading for pleasure has declined the past years which carries people’s imaginations and critical thinking. It causes students to procrastinate with not only school work, but also causes people daily to procrastinate with their work, hobbies, and activities. Procrastination is really hard to deal with, especially when people have internet right next to them.
