In this 21st century, there are a lot of progress in our life compared to the old days that didn't have nothing except they were living being an independent person. In this post-globalization days, the technology seems to be the one thing that shows progress until it becomes one of the most important things to the stratum in Malaysia including kids, teens, adults and elders. Technology can be definited as a branch of knowledge that deals with the creation and use of technical means and their interrelation with life, society, and the environment, drawing upon such subjects as industrial arts, engineering, applied science and pure science. The issue is, people's dependance on technology has affected the creativity and communication.
It is true that with the progress of technology, people seems to lost the creativity and communication skills. It can be noticed when we no longer use communication to tell people about something that we wanted to deliver but we are inclined to use the social medias such as Whatsapp, Wechat, Twitter, Facebook and others. This can be proved when we are no longer think about a question that has been asked to us but we will search it in the Google. Although the Google provides the information faster, but we are not even think and that will makes our brain work slowly and it will affect our future. Though we have an amazing and wondorous thing given by God yet we are tempted to use technology at every opportunity as a replacement for critical thinking or problem solving. Technology should be the last decision if we can't find the answer to a question. As a small conclusion, we can see that this masterful tool has led us to not think about a conflict that we need to
Technology is causing us to isolate ourselves from each other, as well as prevent us from using our imagination as a tool to be creative and innovative. When we watch
Over the the years, more and more people have become heavily dependent on technology to get us through our day. A reason for that is because technology has been rapidly advancing. For example, back in the day people used pagers, dvr’s, and typewriters. Now we have 3D televisions, computers, game systems, social media, search engines, and smartphones that come out every year. In Nicholas Carr’s article “Is Google Making Us Stupid?”
Everyone has a different view of technology and the internet, and how or if it is affecting us as people. In Nicolas Carr’s article “Is Google Making Us Stupid” he offers his views on the subject. He expresses his concerns about what humans excessive internet use could be doing to the actual functioning of their brains. Lauren Brown and Kay Sanborn, both have their own ideas on the subject some of which agree with Carr and others that disagree. I believe that the internet and technology have their pros and cons and whether we see both views or just one is up to us.
Andy Newton Critical Analysis “Is Google Making Us Stupid?” Nicholas Carr In the essay, “Is Google Making Us Stupid,” by Nicholas Carr, the author presents an argument of how people tend to think their minds work like the latest technology and how throughout history this has improved productivity. Carr uses historical examples of inventions that greatly altered the way we live, work, and manage our lives. Some innovative examples he used were: the introduction of time keeping instruments, Frederick Winslow Taylor’s revolutionizing of words to spread information, factory processes, Writing and printing words to spread information, and the current day internet and the informational search engine, Google. Carr’s argumentative structure is that people tend to remodel their content consumption and thinking processes to the latest advancement in technology.
In the essay, “Is Google Making Us Stupid” by Nicholas Carr, he mentioned that the technology is decreasing our abilities and increasing our dependence on sources such as internet. Carr describes how the internet is affecting the human brain and changing our minds. He explained that the internet is affecting the way that people receive and store information. Carr’s main idea is that extensive computer use is changing the human mind, mostly in negative ways because spending too much time on the internet can cause people to become lazy. He thought that the internet is turning us into scattered and superficial thinkers.
He states that the presence of technology is changing the way people are thinking (Carr 54). I, in fact, disagree with his statement because technology has taken a huge role in the growth of knowledge for many people and allowing society to become much easier. Nicholas Carr writes about the
In his book Smarter Than You Think, Clive Thompson aims to persuade the readers into believing that technology has had a positive impact on our society and the World as a whole. He claims that technology has improved our retention rates, allows us to write and think with global audiences and even improves our senses. How does he persuade us to believe his claims? He gives us many examples of people and their inventions, and how these inventions have had positive impacts on our society. One example he gives us is Ory Okolloh, a woman who created a website that played an important role during the disputed presidential elections in Kenya in 2007.
In today’s society, technology plays a very important role in its ability to function, it helps people find information, communicate with others far away and provides entertainment. In “Fahrenheit 451”, a book written by Ray Bradbury, a dystopian future where books have been made illegal is presented. In the article, “Is Google Making Us Stupid?” by Nicholas Carr, raises many questions about technology and its effects on society. It’s quite evident that we have become quite dependent on technology due to our overconsumption of it.
Clay Shirky, the author of “Does the internet make you smarter?” wrote about how ignorance has poisoned the internet with incorrect information. Not only does technology has its flaws, but so do books and novels dating back to the Protestant Reformation. Even though many people are against the internet Shirky reassures that if used correctly and appropriately, then it can become a very useful tool that can “tap our cognitive surplus”. The increased collaboration of technology is important to society for the reason that the internet is full of valuable knowledge that can be claimed very quickly and easily. Increased collaboration is absolutely a benefit.
actually affects our brains and the way we use them. Many people would argue that technology has more cons than pros, however it’s quite the opposite. We use technology in our everyday lives and it helps us to gain more knowledge than we’ve ever been able to before. The technology we have today is one of the greatest advantages we could have. Andrea Lunsford, who wrote “Our Semi-Literate Youth?
The Influence of Technology In the essay, “Is Google Making Us Stupid?” Nicholas Carr argues that utilization of the internet has an adverse effect on our way of thinking and functioning in everyday life. Whether it be reading a newspaper, or scrolling through Facebook, internet media has forever stamped its name in our existence. Carr explains to us that the internet is a tool used every single day in today’s society, but also makes most of us complacent with the ease of having the world at our fingertips.
Has technology changed so immensely over the years that it now controls society? What has it done to control society? Over the years, technology has become one of the society's major resources. This relates to the use of technology to control the World State in Aldous Huxley’s, Brave New World. In the present day, we aren’t quite advanced enough to create clones or flying cars, but technology has become more of an everyday tool over the course of time.
Technology has made people dependent on it, gullible, and lose verbal skills, which has led to a naïve world. Getting information has never been easier than it is today. People simply need to type into Google what they wish to know, and there is the answer. They now rely on technology to help get information easier. Before technology became what it is today, finding an answer would require research and thinking for oneself.
"Technology is like art. It is a soaring exercise of the human imagination". Like everything in this world that has its good and bad effects on us, technology does too. How we use technology is important in determining what results it would bring us. Nowadays, technology is heavily used for educational purposes.
We have forgotten how business was conducted before conference calling and emails. Now, technology has taken over our lives and it clearly affects the creativity and communication between us. First of foremost, creativity plays a very important role in the improvement of our society and of our living standard. New innovations make our lives easier, allow us to do things that we could not do before, as well as create workplaces and bust the economy .Everywhere we look creativity and innovations are there; from an art gallery displaying Van Gogh 's masterpieces, to our mobile phones that provide us with information and functionality that previous generations could only dream of, to the way we shop using the internet and the new digital economy we live it.
