RESEARCH AIM The purpose of my research is to contribute to the body of knowledge in the area of teen agers depression in South Korea. The present study will highlight the influence of significant factors related to teen agers depression in South Korea; such as family economic status, academic achievement, parental support and lifestyles. Moreover, this research would explore the impact of teen agers depression factors separately on both genders; girls and boys to make the comparing study. Furthermore, a study by Song (2012) have shown that the youth in Korean culture is the least happy in developed OECD countries. A former study that explored perceived power of parents, and their ability in child-raising situations revealed that mothers with higher years of education had higher parenting self-efficacy, and asserted that education contributes a lot to a mother’s parenting effectiveness (Freed & Tompson, 2011). SIGNIFICANCE OF THE RESEARCH In this research, I would identify several factors that are associated with teen agers depression experience in South Korea, notably between higher maternal education levels and depression experience in male offspring, and higher levels of wealth with increasing depression experience in either gender. These findings would highlight the verification of some influential individual and school level factors on teens depression experience, the importance of an individual-, family- and school-level approach to teen agers depression should continue to be emphasized in teen age mental health management strategies. METHODOLOGY The stratified, two-stage cluster sampling will be used in this research to investigate the teen age depression experience. One hundred middle schools and one hundred high schools will be selected (first stage), and 3 classes from each school will be sampled (second stage).
