Statistics conducted in 1996 show that “every 42 seconds a teenager attempts suicide and every 16.9 minutes a teenager completes it” (World Future Society, 1996, p.51). Reading these statistics, a lot of people think that this is not a problem and this will never ever happen with them and with their closest ones. Actually, I was one of those people but at one moment everything changed. A friend of mine faced the death of her family member and fell into depression that then caused a suicide attempt. Everyone feels overwhelmed by difficult life situations sometimes. Some people put their problems on the first place and can not find a way to move on with their lives. Unfortunately, as the years pass, this rate is more likely to increase. It all began at the end of 20th century but there is no specific location as this problem started to develop everywhere approximately at one time as studies used in this research have shown. There are several causes which can lead to a suicide action, such as individual self-reproach, mental disorders, social and economic factors, family problems, social isolation caused by different life situations and even rituals such as hara-kiri in Japan. The current effect of the problem is that it became a trend. It happens worldwide and people are getting used to it. More and more teenagers die every day, as they see this action as the only possible way to sort out their personal struggles. According to nowadays tendency, “suicide is the third leading cause of death among youths aged 10 to 14 years and the second leading cause of death among youths aged 15 to 24 years”(Garraza, Goldston, McKeon, Reid & Walrath, 2015, p.986). It shows that potential consequences are not flattering. There will be more young people dying which will not only affect their close friends and relatives, who might “live their permanently shattered lives as a consequence of their loss”, but also countries’ social and economic conditions in many different ways such as, first of all, lack of human resources (Belam, Donovan, Lloyd, Owen, Owens & Rapport, 2009, para.#1) This problem needs to be solved as it is global, it happens everywhere and millions of people are affected.
