Depression is becoming more common among teens, especially teenage girls. Teens are having to constantly hide their feelings among peers who may feel the same. Having to deal with life, school, and in a constant competition to stay the best can have serious affects on a teen. Researchers are finding that the rate of depression has increased, and is continuing to grow. Teenage depression is more aggressive and is growing by the days.
The rate of depression among teenage girls varies from five to 28 percent, depending on the girl, (Sad teenage girls are becoming more so, Par. 1). About 15 to 18 percent experience some symptoms of depression at any give time. The rate of girls compared to boys is doubled. Many things can trigger depression such as, early sexual relations, drug usage, and alcohol abuse.(Sad teenage girls are becoming more so, Par. 5). With most girls having sex at early ages birth control can play a factor in depression. Not only can that play a factor, but a for a growing woman, her surroundings can affect her in many ways.

One of the leading causes of suicide among teenagers is depressions, they feel as though they are alone, and nothing will get better, so instead of fixing a problem, they find ending it all is the answer. There are many signs to detect that someone is suffering from depression. They may show the following: changes in mood such as anxiety, unhappiness, sadness, mood swings, inability to feel pleasure, or loss in interest. They may also have excessive crying, irritability, social isolation, weight gain or loss is common, so is lack of concentration, slowness in activity and thought, or thoughts of suicide.
