Over three hundred and eighteen million Americans watch between 12-33 hours of television weekly. Television is a form of media that is utilized more than any other media within the U.S. As a result many citizens are exposed to violent words and images on a regular basic. Examples of these images or slurs range from pornography, vulgar language, and many other vicarious references. I believe these things should be censored because frequent exposure to these occurrences can desensitize us, make violence seem appealing, and affect the youth in a negative way.

Many of our youth are mimicking what they see. The youth are using these types of words and portraying these images of profanity and unacceptable behaviors more frequently. Censorship will only help prevent more children from being affected by profanity, nudity, obscenity and violence currently allowed on television. It endangers are future because the children are the future of the world. These violent words and images allowed over our national TV makes it hard for children to know the difference between fake physics and zombies. Kids minds are being manipulated to believe things like wizards and magic is real or that vampires are real. Almost every channel you flip to has some type of fictional characters and unbelievable crimes such as murder, rape, drug abuse or shootings taking place. Kids are literally growing up before their generation. Ideas coming from nothing but what they see on TV. Kids having low self esteem and are wanting more than anything to fit in. Children will always find ways to watch these kind of shows with the type of technology that is available now. Children can watch these type of shows on all type of devices now such as cell phones, I-pads and etc. These children can also view these shows outside the home without the parent’s knowledge.
