Can you imagine a world where everyone has access to counseling services? As of now, many people do not have access to affordable counseling services—telepsychology wants to change that. Telepsychology consists of counseling services using online communication such as video, calling, text, or email. Some researchers believe telepsychology can help students in a university setting, assist people in rural areas or people with mobility issues reach a psychologist, and is an important advance in counseling that allows flexibility and a more personal approach. Although it is a significant advance in psychology, it is important to acknowledge the complications that could occur. Numerous researchers agree that a divide between patient and clinician could occur, but many other experts believe it is an important advance in counseling that allows flexibility and a more personal approach. Others are interested in how telepsychology could help students in a university setting and how it could assist people in rural areas or people with mobility issues reach a psychologist. With the uberization of healthcare and telehealth we often feel overwhelmed by the push for telehealth. As independent advisors, Ingenium Telehealth Consultants will work with you to determine which services will be successful, appropriate and the best way to integrate technology into the care delivery processes. Several benefits have been identified as a result of telehealth services being introduced. Increase the accessibility of and to professional caregivers Increase the quality and continuity of care to patients Increase the focus on preventive medicine through early intervention Reduce the overall cost of healthcare Education and training Contrary to vendor solutions, one size does not fit all.
Respondents were asked to discuss factors that contributed to the successful use of telehealth services in their respective regions. The following section provides an overview of the most commonly reported facilitators. Physician Buy-In Most respondents discussed physician buy-in as a key facilitator for telehealth services. Respondents suggested several reasons why primary care providers are likely to support the use of telehealth and refer their patients.
These results are not completely logically due to the fact of the unavailability there is of this technology, not all collegiate and youth programs are going to have access to telemedicine, making it not logical. Aside from this, the information is still reliable and sufficient. The authors organized the information all in one section, but inside of this it is still relatively simple to

Telehealth can facilitate developing inter-professional care plans. Patients with neurologic conditions including stroke, spinal cord injury, traumatic brain injury, and amyotrophic lateral sclerosis may use telehealth to monitor symptoms and response to treatment. Telehealth also may facilitate occupational and physical therapy programs as well as improve weight management and skin care in patients with chronic conditions. Other applications include imaging review in sports medicine, symptom management and counseling in concussion, traumatic brain injury, and pain management programs. Limitations of telehealth include barriers in establishing relationship between medical provider and patient, ability to perform limited physical examination, and differences in payment models and liability coverage.
Hello, Lori You made a great point with telehealth and telecare. Sanders et al. (2012) identified telehealth and telecare interventions for improving quality and cost-effectiveness of care for people with long term complex health and social care needs. Patients who use this innovative change in care delivery have an increase in autonomy. There is the convenience as you emphasized due to decrease in unnecessary travel.

Preferred Counseling Techniques As a counselor, I would perfer techniques such as motivational interviewing (MI), self-disclosure, reframing, cognitive restructuring and modeling. These techniques are familiar to those counselors who agree with the humanistic approach. My preferred techniques would be those based on humanistic-phenomenological approaches, such as Cognigive-Behavioral and Person-Centered. Below are descriptions my perferred counseling techniques: Motivational Interviewing.
Telehealth is highly convenient and enhances patients service options. Giving patient options for care such as social reasons respects the autonomy of
According to Hawkins & Clinton (2015), “Neuroscience offers a rich interplay between the mind, the brain, and the network of relationships, which helps us understand mechanisms of a wide array of therapeutic concepts, strategies and techniques” (p. 23). Psychological theory and research will enhance the counselor ability to promote solidarity in
Therapists must access their own internal process such as their feelings, attitudes and moods. Therapists’, who are not receptive to the awareness of their flow of thoughts and feelings, will not be able to help clients be aware of theirs (Kahn, 1997, p. 40). Though congruence does not mean that therapists have to share personal issues with clients, a therapist must not conceal their inner process from the client, and not be defensive but transparent (Kahn, 1997, p. 41). By being open sometimes a therapist learns more not only about their client but about themselves
As I learn more about counseling theories, I realize that it is important for a counselor to not act as an expert on a client’s life, rather, this role is solely
Research is vital in the field of counseling because it provides with proper data on the impact and effectiveness of counseling. Duffy and Chenail (2008) indicated, that quantitative research has helped counselor in the filed because it provides with values and dominated research can prove that treatment can be effective. Whether or not one could truly understand the inner world of another has been discussed for centuries and was spoken of by such philosophers as Plato and Aristotle (Gompertz, 1960). However, Carl Rogers (1957) is given credit for bringing this concept to life in the twentieth century. With respect to the counseling relationship, understanding through empathy is seen as a skill that can build rapport, elicit information, and help the client feel accepted (Egan, 2010; Neukrug&Schwitzer, 2006). Because empathy is seen as an important personal attribute as well as a critical skill to
Here are two examples of non-therapeutic communication: Changing the subject (interrupting/introducing a new topic), Giving unsolicited advice (telling the client what to do, making decisions for the client, implying that the client cannot handle his or her own life
