The mission of Ten Thousand Villages is “…to create opportunities for artisans in developing countries to earn income by bringing their products and stories to our market through long term fair trading relationships.” The website carries the message of the missions statement from page to page. The “About Us” section starts with the history of “how” and “why” organization was established. Ten Thousand Villages is a non-profit organization that started with Edna Ruth Byler’s vision. Edna wanted to create opportunities for craftsperson around the developing world, a market place where they can sell their artifacts. The company also works with the craftsman to meet the triple bottom line. They work closely with individuals to make sure recycled and natural materials are being used. The retail stores that are facilitating the selling of these items use recycled flooring, fixtures and papers. The mission statement clearly states that the organization strives to make opportunities available for poverty stricken individuals. Ultimately changing their lives and the lives of their families. The mission statement is communicated in detail throughout the company’s website. One of the components of the mission statement is that they are in a business of making fair trades with some of the vulnerable people of our world. This enables the craftsperson to receive a fair compensation for the work he/she has done. When reading the mission and looking at the company’s website, you will see a direct reflection of the statement.
