Headache is perceived as a pain felt inside your head. Depends on the regions of the head, headache can be classified into different types.
The first one, which is also the most common type, is tension-type headache. Tension-type headache can be further subdivided into two forms, episodic and chronic. Episodic tension-type headache is when a patient experience 30-minute or 7-day long headache for less than one day a month with mild or moderate intensity, followed by no nausea or vomiting. On the other hand, chronic tension-type headache is characterised by a headache meeting the above criteria but for more than 15 days a month. (Loder and Rizzoli, 2008)
Another type of headache is migraine. Migraine is viewed as a more severe condition compared to tension-type headache as the frequency of headache attacks increases. Migraine patients can be identified as those who have had at least two headache attacks with aura, in which the symptoms are seeing flashing lights, difficulty in concentration, problems

(Steiner TJ, et al, 2003). However, complications with aspirin or NSAIDs including gastric irritation and frequent ulceration may result (Loder and Rizzoli, 2008).
The most obvious role of pharmacist is giving advices to patients about what medications are suitable for them. For an over-the-counter treatment, especially for headache, the advisory role of pharmacist is highly highlighted. The WWHAM acronym, which is composed by the National Pharmaceutical Association, lead the pharmacist to the conclusion of what over-the counter medications they should give the patient by having them answered a list of questions. That includes “What are the symptoms?”, “Who is it for?”, “How long have the patient had them?”, “Action already taken?”, “Medicines being taken for other
A doctor should always take into consideration what is best for their patients without being influenced by anyone. In Stephanie Saul’s article “Drug Makers Pay for Lunch as they Pitch” she discusses how pharmaceutical companies use free lunches as an incentive to influence Doctors to prescribe their brand drugs. Many see this situation of pharmaceutical companies purchasing meals for a Doctor’s entire office as not having any effect on the doctor’s decision to prescribe their brand. The reality is that these free lunches do influence a doctor to prescribe a certain brand drug when writing a patient’s prescription. A doctor should consider what is the best option for a patient something that is affordable and if the case is that a name brand drug is the best option it should not be influenced by the pharmaceutical company in any way.
Healthcare professionals must talk to their patients about possible side-effects of drugs they are taking and make sure they understand what can happen. In doing so, patients may start to understand why something is happening to them and it is a normal side-effect, which can not only lead to trust from the patients to providers, but can lead to the passing of knowledge from one to another which may prevent future
The history of the headache An acute onset of the headache of the patient’s life associated with a stiff neck. Figure 3 CT-scan & MRI An ill appearing patient on physical examination typically lead the health care practitioner to consider the diagnosis and order a CT (computerized tomography) scan of the head. If the CT scan is performed within 72 hours of the onset of the headache it will detect 93% to 100% of all aneurysms.
“Please God just let me wake up. I’m too young to go through this. What will happen to my children; who will take care of them? My gut tells me I am doing the right thing, but Lord, please show me your hand is in this.” I hear myself repeating this prayer over and over again.
I hard to work through a lot of pain. Many tests and exams were preformed on my brain to check for cancer and bleeding although nothing was found. I still get intense headaches every couple weeks. Sometimes they are too painful to move but I refuse to let them control my life.
In the United States alone, hospitalization occurring for prescription reasons account for one to two thirds of admittance (Brown, Bussell, 2011). This means people are coming in for problems
The results of this study are quite frightening, but one must know that clinicians in general override more that 90 percent of the drug interactions alerts and 77 percent of the drug allergy alerts. This high override rate of all alerts suggest that most clinicians see the utility of electronic medication alerts as very insufficient. The clinicians would rather have a system that alerts on e-prescribing at the right time for the right patient. This means that clinicians would like the system to be improved and separate out patients who have used a
There are several different types of ICH, also known as blood clots, in or around the brain. These can range from mild head injuries to very serious and life threating. An epidural hematoma occurs when a blood clot forms underneath the skull on top of the dura, which is the covering that surrounds the brain. It is caused by a tear in an artery that runs just under the skull called the middle meningeal artery. This type of hematoma is usually associated with a skull fracture.
I have experience the things that can occur from a brain injury first hand. In September of 2012, my daughter Deja Mason was injured and has been suffering for the last 3 years. Upon entering the 6th grade my daughter was on an 8th grade math level and a 7th grade reading level. During the third week of school, another student was playing and joking around in the school yard pushing children from behind. Deja was pushed into a metal basketball pole.
During the conditioning I would get migraines when I would practice, I thought nothing of it at the time so I would just go home and sleep it off. During one of my tournaments I was playing a game for most of the first half, once half time started I went to the bench and I plopped down on the seat. All of a sudden I became really dizzy and could not see very well. My coach noticed and I started to cry because of the pain I was experiencing. The pain was like nothing else I had ever experienced.
When instructed to take medicines prescribed by doctors, there is rarely any second thought put in before taking those pills. Knowing the side effects of your medications and knowing proper dosages is something that should be done religiously. Opiate overdoses have become one of the leading causes of death in America, this is largely due to doctors not following policy and prescribing addictive narcotics for inappropriate ailments, which leads to addiction, and can destroy the lives of those around them. Patients should be able to trust doctors and know that they are in safe hands, however it now seems as this is not always the case. Doctors are overprescribing addictive medicines and failing to follow proper policy for prescribing those medicines.
Medication use is potentially dangerous. Polypharmacy is increasing, and makes it harder to keep track of side effects and interactions and of potentially inappropriate drug combinations. “The risk of serious consequences, hospitalization, and death due to medication errors increases with patients’ age and number of medications (Scand J Prim Health Care, 2012)”. For example, the GP is supposed to monitor the patient's regular medication, but does not always do so. Lack of monitoring and keeping track of patients’ medication use is a main cause when a patient is given inappropriate drugs.
AAS- Medical Office Procedures Week 2 Discussion Judy Potts Explain why pharmaceutical representatives leave samples of expensive medications with physicians. Pharmaceutical representatives, show the physicians the newest drugs on the market, to drum up business for the pharmaceutical companies. The representatives leave samples of the products, In hopes that the doctor will strat prescribing their new name brand products for his patients instead of generic drugs. Also, in some cases, the patients are not financially able to purchase a new drug not knowing if it will help with their disease. The clinic 's management staff will determine whether they will be except the newest medication samples from the representative.
In pharmacy practice, there are always multiple solutions for a single problem. Practitioner can suggest on the medication and dosage regimen, yet the final decision should lie on the hand of patient. (Robert J.C. et al., 2012) Most of the time, patient does not understand his/her own medical condition and medication plan, let alone making decision on it. Shared decision making, patient activation and broader patient engagement can significantly improve the treatment outcomes.
One of the pharmacist’s main goal is to provide individuals with knowledge about the medication they have been prescribed. If a pharmacist has 100% medical knowledge, I believe that an average person has roughly 5% knowledge regarding medication action, side effects, and contraindications. Most people only know what their
