Every action and decision we take has consequences. And most of the time, we are not aware of these things. The statement written by Teodoro Agoncillo contained facts that really happened, but he failed to see the truth because his own perspective became the barrier on seeing that. I disagree on the facts that Agoncillo cited for the conclusion that the reform movement did not yield or led to the revolution. Considering those facts and reflecting on the possibilities that it can cause to the situations during that time, I can say that Agoncillo failed to see the reality behind those things.
The ideology that was contained on the mind of the reformists during the time when they built the reform movement was broad. This reform movement has many goals and to sum it all up, these reformists want to have equality and justice for the Filipino people. I considered him a revolutionary although he only used pen and paper to fight for the reforms. Because when we think of it, he opened the minds of the people on the way we viewed their society that time. He became a part on the development not only on the nationalism of the Filipinos, but also on the concept of revolution. Because what can you expect on the people who were not well-educated that time or worse, non-educated at all, given that they were faced with inequality, injustice, and discrimination from Spain whom they thought of as a country who will nurture them as Filipinos themselves? They will find a way to fight for the treatment they were receiving. In their case, they cannot fight using pen and paper as what Rizal did. So they fight using another way where they think they can get out of the Spanish
