Night is a book that is based on the holocaust. Elie Wiesel talks about the things he and his dad endured while in Auschwitz. Through the book you go through Elie and his dad's relationship and how they got closer while being here. Night showed us the cruelty's and what each person had to endure during the holocaust. A few important topics in the book are, His journey in faith, dehumanization.
The book I chose to read was Night by Elie Wiesel. It is an autobiography. Elie Wiesel is a Jewish American who went through the Nazi Concentration Camps during the Holocaust. He is an author, professor and an activist. He was born on September 30th, 1928 in Sighet, Transylvania.
The book Night written by holocaust survivor Elie Wiesel, illustrates life in the holocaust. Through life in ghettos, labour camps, concentration camps, death camps and the final death march. Every Jew in Europe during the Holocaust has a different story, and Elie Wiesel is just one of the 6 million that are out there. Elie’s experience during the Holocaust has many similarities to other experiences, but also many differences. When Hitler came to power in 1933, there was an immediate hatred against Jews.
The Holocaust was an extremely tragic event and Elie Wiesel’s autobiographical book, “Night” does a very good job of capturing the vivid events that occurred. In this book, the main character, Eliezer must survive through both mental and physical abuse. He is forced to go days without food and water, and has to deal with the loss of his father, mother, sister and friends while in the concentration camp. Although Eliezer had to face these many horrors, the biggest thing he had to face was himself and everything that had been taken from him. After being rescued, Eliezer got sick from food poison, and spent two weeks hospitalized “in and out of death” (Wiesel 115).

Throughout the novel there are very detailed descriptions of what life was like in the camps and under SS rule along with Elie’s faith being tested during that time. The novel Night written by Elie Wiesel, a Jewish man who lived through the Auschwitz-Birkenau concentration camp, tells this man’s sad story and what he went through as a young child. At many moments in the story it is possible to see how the living conditions of the Jewish community deteriorated as the war went on. One of the main aspects of the Nazi’s plan to rid the planet of the Jews was to break them mentally, mainly by slowly taking their humanity from them. Treating them like animals was one of the ways that the Nazis would dehumanize the Jewish victims. As if they were cattle, they were referred to as numbers instead of names as if they were not even human anymore.
In the novel, Night, by Elie Wiesel readers are taken through the incredibly tragic journey of Elie fighting for his life while in several concentration camps under Nazi control. Elie does a very good job at describing the fear and ignorance that everyone shared during this time. People thought that this was war and tragic things were going to happen, but they did not understand the severity. When people finally opened their eyes and understood it was too late to stand up, Hitler was too powerful. The perspective of a young teenage boy who had barely had a chance to live his life before it was taken away is humbling.

Elie Wiesel is one of the many people in this world that have lived and endured through many tragic events throughout their life due to genocide. However, it has inspired him to become a human rights activist. He, like many others, have been affected by the harmful ways of genocide in which it has inspired him to make a difference in the world. He has seen and been through mass killings, starvation, and many more that traumatized him (Machajewski 6). The cruel world that Wiesel had seen and been through during the Holocaust has inspired him to educate people’s minds about genocide and its harm on society through his works of literature and activism.
