Domestic Terrorism Vs International Terrorism

Domestic terrorism refers any forcefulness act exerted on the civilian population or the infrastructure of a particular nation. Mostly domestic terrorism is done by the citizens of the nation with the intention of coercing, intimidating the national policy. A lone wolf terrorist is a situation where a citizen performs a forceful act supporting or basing on ideology and beliefs of certain movements or groups. One person alone without any command or assistances does a lone terrorist from the group.

In reference to a bill introduced to Congress forbidding the use of tactics defined by torture; The United States government must consider all of the ethical options and possibilities they have. Torturing anyone is morally unethical but allowing terrorists to murder innocent civilians is against every moral we, as humans possess. As morally just people America needs to find the exceptions in which we are willing to use torture in countering terrorism. As leaders of the free world our government has the responsibility to do everything in their power to protect innocent people and gain the needed information to do so. In order to win the war on terror, officials will occasionally have no choice but to torture the terrorists withholding information to prevent these attacks on humanity.

One of these trends comprises the dissemination of religious radicalization as evidenced by jihadist organizations such as ISIL (ISIS) and Al Qaeda, identified as micro-actors. Another trend in terrorism involves sophistication such as the exploitation of international interchange of information, ideas, and finance towards their benefit. Thirdly, there is evidence of an increasing overlap amid international crime and terrorist activity. National terrorism has been the focus of attention since September 11 (Haubrich, 2006). Unfortunately, domestic terrorism is now becoming increasingly common with hate groups around our nation. Domestic terrorism can be defined as violent acts that someone has committed in their own country against their fellow citizens and infrastructures. Some examples of violent acts include violent crimes, (murder, assault, and etc.) property crimes, and public order crimes. It can also be a crime against the state or federal government, like for example the attack on the World Trade Centers and the infamous Oklahoma City bombing.

This terrorism is usually associated with Muslim groups. As a safety precaution the United States has decided that no Muslims are allowed access into our country. They think that it is a good idea to decrease the possibility of a terrorist attack by just not allowing any Muslims into our country. This could end up ruffling some feathers though, because some might think that this is unfair to them due to excerpt two of the Declaration of Independence. Terrorism has grown to become an important term during the past 40 years and this has been linked to certain groups using terrorism strategies to create chaos and mayhem among governments and the public. But terrorism has grown to develop different meanings among different people and even within government departments (Meisels). The severity and strategies of terrorisms have also changed in recent times with certain groups causing terror in public while others fighting certain groups and individuals and claiming it to be the fight for freedom.

I wanted to learn about domestic terrorism incidents and what separates domestic terrorism from international terrorism. The term of domestic terrorism seems to have changed in recent years from those with anti-government views like Timothy McVeigh and the Weather Underground to include those with beliefs of international terror groups such as the Boston Marathon Bombers and Fort Hood shooter. I felt somewhat unsure as to if suspects like the Boston Marathon Bombers fit the category of domestic terrorism or international terrorism, and I now feel as if I have a much better understanding of terrorism terms. In Florida, the School shooting took place on Feb 14 2018. At Marjory Stoneman Douglas high school Nikolas Cruz a 19 year old man, set off fire alarms to get kids to run in the hallways so he could open fire on the students with an AR-15 assault rifle. In addition, Cruz noxiously killed 17 people and injured over a dozen others. After a terrorist attack of any kind there are always consequences that must be faced. Sometimes the point of the terrorist attacks is because the organization wished to send a message or to influence policy in their favor. However, after the 9/11 attacks administrators realized that the United States was not prepared for a tragedy of this kind and had little to no measures to prevent one, this lead them to create new programs and policies. This notion is not unfounded and carries a very real and very dangerous threat to the US.
