The Galveston hurricane of 1900 had significant social, political, and economic effects on the city and the United States, including highlighting existing social inequalities, prompting changes to the city’s governance and disaster response, causing extensive damage to the local economy, and leading to long-term changes in the city’s population and infrastructure. One way the Galveston Hurricane affected the politics of Galveston was in the creation of a unique form of city government that replaced the traditional mayor-council system with a commission system. This system vested power in a small group of elected officials responsible for legislative and executive functions, giving them greater control over the city's affairs. Another way the Galveston Hurricane affected the city’s politics was the federal government's response to the disaster being criticized as inadequate and slow, which led to increased calls for improved disaster preparedness and emergency response at the national level.
Texas is unusual in that its constitution is so lengthy and detailed that much policymaking must occur through the process of constitutional amendment rather than simply by lawmaking. If Texas were to have an income tax or to change its system for selecting judges, those changes would not come from statutes enacted by the legislature, but would have to be constitutional amendments
The Lt. governor holds more power in the legislative branch instead of the executive, because of this, compared to the governor of Texas he wields more power. The governor has more duties, but he doesn’t have more access. Access is power. These positions given to the Lt. governor in the Senate, means he or she has the right to debate or vote in many

It is common to see either a council- manager or mayor-council government in populated cities. Generally, these two commonly used forms of government greatly differ in terms of structure. The mayor-council government is commonly used in large cities New York and Chicago and certain of the Mid-Atlantic and Midwest. The council- manager government is common among in southwest cities such Phoenix, San Antonio, and Las Vegas. Cities usually have a population size of ten thousand or more commonly use the council- manager form of government (NLC.org, 2017).
Do people really follow the beliefs of a government or are they forced to follow the beliefs? How could this shape the way a government is run? Some may argue that governments always do what is best for the people. Although this may sound like the right thing to do governments do not always follow that way. In the novel 1984, by George Orwell, an English novelist, essayist, journalist, and critic, the psychological state of manipulation and fear are explored.
The Texas legislative process is governed by the Texas constitution as well as the House of Representative and the Senate. Its primary function is to enact laws to provide for the health, welfare, education, environment, and economic and general well-being of the citizens of Texas. It also establishes public policy through the passage of bills and resolutions and proposes amendments to the state constitution, which are then submitted to the voters for approval or disapproval. When a bill is proposed, it must go through the legislative process before it becomes a law. The legislative process is very long and has many steps.

The image on the front cover of the Texas Monthly magazine depicts a true image of Texas politics, the current governor of Texas Greg Abbott and media communication about politics. Since images speak for themselves, we get the idea of what the picture is about without guessing. For example, we see Governor Abbott holding a rifle, and presume that he supports gun rights and is a Republican rather than a Democrat. Since the majority of Republicans support gun rights for protection, whereas the majority of Democrats believe in gun control. We can also see that Governor Abbott poses a confident and poised demeanor which tells us he cares about Texas, he looks ready to accept any challenge, looks modest and has pride in himself, but not in an egotistic and domineering manner, and he also seems confident to be a leader.

Political culture establishes the backdrop against which politics unfold, it establishes the outer limits of what is possible, or even probable in the political realm. Texas political culture can be described as traditionalistic and individualistic. Texas traditionalist political culture believes in the values that policies are designed to preserve social order in the state, politicians come from society’s elite, and politicians have a family obligation to govern. While on the other hand, individualistic political culture believes that government should be limited when it comes to the lives of the public, individual rights of the citizens should be the main focus of a government rule, and a stronger support of personal politics rather than elitism. Texas also has a strong populism influence.
