Advancement in politics requires many factors, but the most significant component to achieve success in politics is to maintain good relationships with other institutions – both unofficial and official institutions. Together, the bureaucracy, interest groups, and committees of the Congress form the iron triangle, which refers to the concept that the bureaucrats, the interest groups and the congressional committees must work together in order to spread their influence throughout the nation – or the state – and to develop their powers. Iron triangles also exist in Texas, and one of Texas’ iron triangles focuses on higher education. The members of the Texas Coalition for Excellence in Higher Education also believe that the nation and the state must establish the pursuit of knowledge as top priority. The goal of the Texas Coalition for Excellence in Higher Education, as one of the interest groups involved in the higher education iron triangle, is to promote an improved quality of higher education. Each member of an iron triangle plays a role that benefits other members of the triangle, and, in return, receives an equal amount of benefits from them. As a member of the iron triangle, Texas Coalition for Excellence in Higher Education votes on issues that benefits the bureaucrats’ jobs and contributes greatly to the advancement of the bureaucrats’ careers. The Congress consists of two institutions: the House of Representatives and the Senate. The House Committee on Higher Education focuses on studying various potentials and strategies, such as new technological advances that would allow students to access and participate in higher education, and how Texas’ resources could be used to improve postsecondary education. The Senate Committee on Higher Education, on the other hand, studies present methods for general academic institutions and community colleges funding, and workforce necessities in each region of Texas, and reviews tuition, fee waivers and exemptions. The House and Senate Committees on Higher Education utilizes the influence of Texas Coalition for Excellence in Higher Education in public opinion, in order to gain favor from the citizens. In return, the House and Senate Committees on Higher Education grants Texas Coalition for Excellence in Higher Education access, passes policies and laws favorable to Texas Coalition for Excellence in Higher Education, and oversight.
