Texas Social Peculiarities

Texas has always been very diverse in regards to our political cultures. These cultures have transformed over the years which makes Texas a hard place to govern. According to Daniel Elazar, each state is associated with a political culture classification scheme of moralistic, individualistic, and traditionalistic cultures. By definition, political culture is the shared values and beliefs about the nature of the political world that give us a common language that we can use to discuss and debate ideas. (21)

Since the dawn of time Texas has been a revolutionary place where many cultures manifested and changed. Latino Culture has obviously been a major influence on Texas overall, this can be taken from the name itself and other things. Not only does “Texas” derive from spanish origin, but the progress of Latin culture into America and the civil rights movement has gone a long way and truly made a foundation for Texas since the 1500s .

Latinos were already living in Texas, mostly all Texans had Mexican origins, had various obstacles that limited them from voting in the state throughout the 19th century.

In the nineteenth century, rates of immigration across the world increased. Within thirty years, over eleven million immigrants came to the United States. There were new types of people migrating than what the United States were used to seeing as well. Which made people from different backgrounds and of different race work and live in tight spaces together; causing them to be unified. Not only did they immigrate to the United States, there were cities all over the world attracting all sorts of individuals. In this essay, I will discuss the variety of people who migrated, why so many people leaned towards immigration, and why the majority of immigrants populated the cities instead of rural areas like their homelands.

Everyday the future in America looks brighter for the issues dealing with race and identity. Brave souls are not letting racism, class discrimination, or sexism hold them back anymore. Furthermore, the fight for a balanced society that pushes for equality is on the horizon. As we close on an era, based on purely the skin of the person, we need to analyze the impacts of the Ethnicity paradigm and Class paradigm on politics of the 20th century. Race and Ethnicity are used interchangeable in everyday conversation, however; they are not the same. In Howard Winant and Michael Omi, Racial Formation book, they outline in the first few chapters the weakness of examining race based on the ethnicity/ class paradigm. Although the paradigms

Texas is the second most populated and second largest state in United State. Due to its size, Texas contains diverse landscapes that resemble both American South and Southwest. Most of the population centers are located in areas of formers prairies, grass lands, forests, and the coastline. The current Texas Constitution was adopted in 1876. Like most of the states, it also provides for a separation off power. The state Bill of Rights is much larger than its federal counterpart, and has provisions unique to Texas. The Texas constitution defines the responsibilities of country governments, which serve as agents of the state. Greg Abbott is the current governor of Texas and Dan Patrick is the Lieutenant governor of Texas.

Political culture establishes the backdrop against which politics unfold, it establishes the outer limits of what is possible, or even probable in the political realm. Texas political culture can be described as traditionalistic and individualistic. Texas traditionalist political culture believes in the values that policies are designed to preserve social order in the state, politicians come from society’s elite, and politicians have a family obligation to govern. While on the other hand, individualistic political culture believes that government should be limited when it comes to the lives of the public, individual rights of the citizens should be the main focus of a government rule, and a stronger support of personal politics rather than elitism. Texas also has a strong populism influence. How populism is different from traditionalist and individualistic is that populism in Texas focuses on economic justice. The populism party was formed by the Farmers Alliance movement and the party’s main focus was using government power to protect individuals from the exploitation of big business and corporations.

The majority share of early pilgrims originated from the American South and carried their past political loyalties with them. Texas Democrats developed throughout the years from a free relationship into a composed gathering. This advancement was moderate on the grounds that the absence of a moment party in Texas all through a significant part of the state 's history made Democrats be less worried with building up a brought together, concentrated gathering association and more slanted to take part in factional strife. When I was 14 I had to move to San Clemente, California. I had already recently moved temporarily to Texas while a house was made ready for us on the military base. “The house is ready!” my mother had said excitedly, after being on the phone for a few minutes. “It’s time to go back?” I had asked. She had said yes then left the room. I then had to move from Texas back to California with my mom, sister, brother, and pets. Once we arrived it was quite an adjustment, I gained an injury, a new academic program, and added responsibilities at home. I guess it didn’t have to be so hard, the move, but it was quite a difficult experience.

Ma and Pa Ferguson both left a mark in history when they were Texas governor. I would like to cover who they were, what they did, when it happened, and why they are important.

The saying for Texas is “everything is bigger in Texas”. Most Americans see Texas as a thriving state with large areas of land, big homes, and big incomes. This reality may be true for some Texans, but not the majority. Texas actually leads in the rankings for poverty. “As of January 22, 2015, Politifact Texas listed on their website that Texas has increased in the poverty rates from 15.1 percent to 17.5 percent.” The national poverty average is approximately 15.4 percent, which Texas is exceeding. “In 2014, for a family of three, poverty was an annual family income of less than $19,790; for a family of four, it was $23,790”.

During my experience at Texas Boys State I was able to collaborate and interact with different young men across the state whom many had various beliefs and opinions especially in politics and society. This difference in opinions showed how my perspective of the world is not the same for some other person living in Houston for example. At the time it was a little overwhelming listening to all the debates and opinions for hours but fortunately I came to respect the beliefs of others and not let my personal opinion interfere with theirs. Overall, I had a wonderful experience communicating and working with these young men from various high schools across Texas where I learned that resepct is necessary when dealing with one who belief 's are different

There’s being a debate mainly informed by the fact that there is a agreement that the governor of Texas has less potential compared to the others governors from other states. And the debate is wether the governor of Texas needs more power or not. There is some people who think that the governor needs more power in order to be equal with the other states. Theres has been some people who believe that the governor should stay the way it is because they say that the Governor’s office in Texas is is considered to be extremely weak specially if they compared it with the other states.

The United States is home of many diverse ethnicities that come here to live the American Dream. Although they are legal immigrants, white americans still treat them as a minority group. There is still racial bias here that is causing tensions between ethnic groups despite all the efforts to stop it.

The racial inequality that we have in modern day blossomed from the historic oppression and comprehensive prejudice of minority groups. From the very beginning of “American” history, other groups of people who were not of European decent were discriminated against and treated inhumanely and without the smallest regard for their lives. Native American populations were decimated by diseases brought oversea by Europeans and forced from their ancestral lands by settlers to make room for their expanding populations. African people were enslaved by the millions and were used as tools of labor, and weren’t even regarded as humans,
