Texting and driving Over 600,000 drivers use their cell phone while driving every single day. Many accidents are caused by this. Countless Americans use their phones while driving which can be extremely dangerous. Although many do it, many are against it. In most states it is illegal to use a phone while driving. Using cell phones while driving is dangerous because of how distracting it is. People believe they can multitask better than they actually can, But this is not true. “Research supports that people cannot devote 100 percent of their attention to each task (Carrie Krawiec). The more tasks they add on, the more their attention diminishes—but people believe they are the exception”(The zebra.com). Consequently most people who text and drive think they can due to the fact that they believe that they are better at driving than the average person. According to experts people instinctively check their phones, they receive a signal from their brain whenever they receive an alert. That signal causes them feel happy, and encourages the repetition of this behavior. Drivers say they continue to do this since it is a habit and it is difficult to stop. People want to stay connected, for the reason that it causes them to feel more productive. For most people it is a very common activity, so sending a text doesn 't seem as dangerous.
