After viewing the Common Core in Literacy video which discussed the sixth shifts in ELA instruction, I was impressed with David Coleman’s (2012) summary of the shifts when he said, students should “read like a detective and write like an investigative reporter. ” This is why I feel that the ultimate goals are the fourth and fifth shifts; text-based answers and writing from source. Being able to read text with intricacy, subsequently allows that information to be transformed into the writing process; making students college and career ready. This is a tiered process in which the instructor must first hone in on different informational text suited to meet the diverse reading levels of each student.

The next topic is the writing process. I have increased my knowledge on the writing process in this class after doing multiple drafts for each of the projects we did throughout the class. The steps in the writing process that I like the most are finding a topic in the Pre-writing step and Drafting. I like having a lot of ideas floating around and think about which idea is the best and the most exciting topic to talk about.

McCarthy to inspire students to strive for excellence in whatever we do. The writing class is already amazing with or without my advice, I hope I can come back and put my input one day into Dr. PHP class and become one of her many teaching assistants. I also want to try my hand at teaching her class, even though I have stage fright and I start to stutter when I am in front of people
