Every character in a story has conflicts that are revealed through their actions and thoughts. Internal conflicts are struggles within a character’s mind, while external conflicts are composed of struggles that a character faces from an outside, conflicting force. Internal and external conflicts are inevitable and are present in every story. In the text “Thanksgiving: A Personal History” by Jennifer New, the author is struggling with an internal conflict of understanding the value of Thanksgiving.
It was a cold winter night in Upstate New York. My mom and dad were enjoying a cup of coffee, my sisters were playing video games, and I was editing a few pictures on my computer. My mom brought up the idea of a vacation. She said” We haven’t been on a vacation for a long time”. We all agreed and were hoping for my dad to also agree. Then my father said with a cheerful voice “Where do you guys want to go for vacation”. Me and my sister Rahma wanted to go to Florida, but, my other sister Selsibila wanted to go to California. Since Florida is closer and most of us agreed on going to Florida my parents said, “Ok then Florida it is” and we all ran to our rooms to pack up our stuff. My father quickly went on his computer and started looking for a rental. After we packed up all our stuff my dad said” Everyone go to bed, so we can wake up fresh in the morning and get the trip started”. So, we all went to bed. I can barely sleep thinking about all the fun were going to have. After about 15 minutes everyone was sound asleep and so was I.
The first event that influenced the celebration of Thanksgiving as we now celebrate was black Friday. At black Friday, most of the stores would on sale, so we could bought the much cheap things during the black Friday and if the family are not cheap, that's the greatest thing in the whole year.
My perspective on Thanksgiving had completely changed after reading this article. I truly believed that Thanksgiving was a happy time, a time of thanks and a celebration of the first harvest. People today celebrate Thanksgiving as a time to get together with loved ones, have a big dinner, to give thanks and go shopping.
Thanksgiving means to me that when the family gets together to eat and have conversations. We usually watch the Dallas Cowboys play. Most of time there is an abundant amount of food.We either go to more than one house or we switch houses every year.
The house is hustling and bustling with happiness and excitement. The cousins are in town and Grandma is more than happy to feed the grandchildren homemade hot chocolate to warm us up from the chilly weather. Before my Dad leads us in prayer, we go around the table and each person tells everyone three specific things they are thankful for. To give us more time to think creatively my mom will sometimes cut out paper leaves. Each person writes what they are thankful for on the leaf and she sticks it to a paper tree on the wall. Doing this gets everyone into a happy mood because we think about everything we have been blessed with. In 1621, the first thanksgiving held was a day dedicated to giving thanks to God for the colony's successful harvest. Unlike many other holidays such as Christmas whose original meaning society seems to have forgotten about, Thanksgiving in America is still about sharing and giving thanks. Food pantries seem to become more popular and many of us take time to thank God for all we have been blessed with.
Thanksgiving is the most stimulating holiday. There is an extreme amount of food to see, smell and taste, along with emotions associated with seeing family. The whole feeling of Thanksgiving is warmer and different than most holidays.
The way people have celebrated Thanksgiving has changed over the years. The first people to celebrate Thanksgiving were the Indians and Pilgrims. They had a large, traditional feast. Today, families celebrate Thanksgiving in different ways that are more modern and fit their lifestyle.
“’Thanksgiving civility’ Is More Than Just An Internet Search Term” is a short essay written by Kimberley Mangun, a professor of communication at The University of Utah, and former Oregonian. The topic of her essay is Thanksgiving Civility.
During Thanksgiving dinner, there are many delicious dishes sprawled across the table. However, there is one in particular that everyone is waiting for; the turkey. This turkey is the focal point and centerpiece of Thanksgiving, similar to how art was the main focus of the Renaissance. Not only did this time period revolve around the arts, but specifically Leonardo da Vinci, and other reputable painters and sculptors from this era. The Thanksgiving turkey is cooked and carved to perfection, which is comparable to the artistic abilities and expectations of Renaissance artists. Every ingredient is tasted and appreciated by the guests who all praise the work of the chef. During the Renaissance, many techniques and components can be found in the masterpieces of da Vinci, Michelangelo, and especially Giotto.
Entertaining for Thanksgiving can be very rewarding, and very exhausting. Over the years I have found that planning and preparing for the big day is essential. I love to cook. I enjoy preparing a wonderful Thanksgiving meal for my loved ones. Giving is the most important part of Thanksgiving. Another important part of Thanksgiving dinner is to be able to sit down, relax and enjoy your meal with the company of your loved ones. By taking steps in advance you can assure a successful Thanksgiving dinner, minimizing being overwhelmed.
As we prepare to celebrate Thanksgiving, I want to thank each of you for your hard work on behalf of our students. I continue to be encouraged by the progress being made in the classrooms and throughout the buildings. I believe we continue to build a organization that lives out the belief that with our help, each and every child can achieve at high levels no matter their backgrounds.
When I think of my community, I think of my small, closely connected school. One thing that my community at school has always loved and has always had is that my grandparents are at every single concert, sporting event, or assembly, my grandparents have made close connections to so many people in this community. However, this summer, my grandparents were involved in a car accident and my grandmother passed away. This was significant to both my family and I, and the community of Skyline High School. My family and I had to learn to live without her and all of her jokes and love. This greatly affected the community of Skyline because they lost one of their biggest supporters. At the funeral, many, many people from Skyline came to celebrate the life of my grandmother, Janice Lee. This included, but was not limited to, teachers, students, and the entire football team. People have told my family and I that each event that goes by with her not there makes them miss her more and
Everyone gathered around one table, sharing and creating memories, it may not have seemed like a big deal but in reality it was. It’s times like these that we’ll all be able to look back on and laugh, it’s a time to remember on a bad day when you need something to look forward to. Whenever I’m at my grandma's house, there is always that distinct feeling of security, having everyone together and being able to feel the amazing love all around. Grandma’s house isn’t huge, in all honestly there isn’t much room at all with everyone there, but it’s
