The abolitionist John Brown had a very important role in the freedom of slaves and the beginning of the Civil War. One of his many famous quotes, from David S. Reynold's John
Brown: Abolitionist, stated his belief: "Whoso stoppeth his ear at the cry of the poor, he shall cry himself, but shall not be heard." (page 50) Also, our 16th President, Abraham Lincoln, was one of the main reasons slavery was abolished. The history of slavery includes the treatment and conditions of slaves, the purpose of slavery, and the outcome of slavery.
The treatment of slaves was based on which owner possessed them. Some slaves were sold to fair slave-owners. Many were not so fortunate. As punishment slaves were often beaten, whipped, or imprisoned. Some slaves
John Brown was the first violent abolitionist. He showed the the North was not afraid to physically fight for their beliefs. He became a martyr for the North

John Brown (May 1800- December 1859) was a Militant American Abolitionist and an antislavery martyr. Brown worked many jobs such as a tanner, sheep driver, wool merchant, farmer, and land speculator, in order to take care of his family, but he was, most importantly, helpful in setting hostility that lead to the Civil War (1851-1856). Being an enemy of slavery, Brown did not mind living in a black community in New York and even wanted to win justice for slaves. He assisted antislavery forces in Kansas (1855) and become the leader of antislavery guerillas. Brown led a raid on a settlement that was for slavery and became "Old Osawatomie Brown", a man feared by slavery apologist.
They used whips, wooden rods, boots, fists, dogs, and much more to punish the slaves for any type of misconduct regardless of the age or gender of the slave. Threats of separating a slave from family was one of the most feared punishments for slaves. Women were often sexually assaulted or raped by their owners and could not do anything to stand up for themselves. Celia, a slave repeatedly abused and raped by her owner, was hanged and killed for defending herself and killing her master. For five years, Celia has been trying to stand up for herself to avoid being raped but being an African American slave, she could not do anything.
There are many arguments in favor of John Brown being a freedom fighter. For example, he saw the wrong in having slaves. He had strong faith and he believed in it very much. John did all of the things he did because he believed that God gave him his duty. He wanted to fight for slave freedom because he believed that slaves should be free and treated as equals.
Because of the evil acts and unjust laws that were made against the slaves by the American nation, John Brown is considered a hero. He was against slavery since he was a child, he fought against discrimination and oppression of slavery, he freed many slaves, and he gave them lands even though he was bankrupt. In addition, because of his religion he believed everyone should be loved and cared for. Therefore, the incident of Harpers Ferry in Kansas was because of his idea of universal freedom. He considered slave owners evil and so he came to the solution of killing them for their sin of slavery and offering them no sympathy for they did the same to their slaves.
The work of him and other fellow abolitionists helped end slavery in the United States.(PUT IN HOW HE WAS FINALLY FREEDED BY PAYING HIS WAY OUT AND THAT WOULD NOT HAVE BEEN POSSIBLE WITHOUT HIM BEING EDUCATED. THE LECTURES AND SPEECHES HE WOULD
Slavery was an issue that was solved over a long period of time. Many abolitionists tried to protest and abolish slavery to prevent it from spreading. One of the most notable activists was John Brown. He was an anti-slavery activist that used violence to try to end slavery. He was known for his violent attacks in the Pottawatomie Massacre and Harper’s Ferry raid.
They were punished as if they were animals that needed to be disciplined. Unfortunately this is not the only cruelty of being a slave, Slave parent and child were often separated from each other, no matter what age they were. “My mother and I were separated
Thomas Jefferson and Benjamin Franklin tried to help. Although they initially owned slaves, They were against slavery and tried to make and enforce laws and join abolition groups. Tom Paine and Harriet Beecher Stowe both wrote books that were against slavery. He wrote, African Slavery in America and she wrote, Uncle Tom’s Cabin.
Southern slavery is most well-known for its violence and abuse. Among the countless other issues surrounding it, slavery is defined by brutality. Of course, not all slave owners were cruel and harsh, but the vast majority were that way. The abuse slaves experienced was physical, emotional, and sexual abuse. Most often times it was dealt out by their master, but also by the general population of free white Americans.
Over the history of the United States, there have been many attempts of terrorism on our soil, many through domestic roots. One such political quarrel that marked the radicalization of the American public far enough to bring about terrorism were on the terms of certain legislations, the concept of abolitionism and anti-abolitionism. Legislations like the Missouri Compromise, and Fugitive Slave act were very controversial to the general public, both in the North and South. At this time, many abolitionists chose to perform pacifist demonstrations rather than violent conflict to achieve their dream. Generation of sentiment against slavery culmunated in John Brown was a calculated terrorist as he used extreme forms of violence against the populus
Most were left unfed and if they disobeyed orders they were whipped and cruelly beaten. However, the most of the South didn 't see slavery as inhumane. To them slavery was needed, slaves were needed to help farm, as well as make profit for their owners. Slavery was seen as a source of
A common controversy in American history is the fact that Abraham Lincoln freed the slaves. Many claim that he freed them with the Emancipation Proclamation but it’s more complex than that. There were many events that helped free slaves and the Emancipation was only a small portion of America’s journey to freedom and “equality”. In reality, Lincoln helped the process of freeing the slaves but, he did not do it himself. Lincoln was not an abolitionist.
Dwight D. Eisenhower said, “May the light of freedom coming to all darkened lands flame brightly, until darkness is no more”. I think we should fight until the end for freedom, and never give up until we are free or die. Freedom means personal liberty, as opposed to slavery. I think not letting women do things that men can do is bad and mean like slavery.
