The American dream is usually a term used by immigrants that are seeking a better life from America. America looks to be the dream place to live from people in other countries who suffer in their homeland. Immigrants believe that the American dream will free them from their problems, that they can come here and support their families and be treated better. But is America really the dream place to be? Do we really treat the people that come here to seek out the American dream fair?
The American dream disguises itself as a deception that will lead to nothing but the complete opposite of what it means. Fitzgerald was clearly addressing an issue he saw in his time and an issue that he thought would be present in the future, he was addressing the fact that people started to mistake the American Dream for a hope of a rich life rather than a better one. Through Gatsby, he showed that a life of material prosperity and glamour can often mask the underlying emptiness and dissatisfaction. For example, Gatsby lived a life “full” of people, but the quote “In his blue gardens...champagne and the stars” shows that despite all the people Gatsby hung out with he had no one who he truly could confide in or trust, he never actually connected with anyone (Source A).
The real question is, is the American Dream a reality, or is it just a dream? To me the American dream is making money, a supporting loving family, and having a career you love. I think that many people come to the U.S. looking for their own idea of The American Dream, but in my opinion I’m not sure how much of the american dream still exist. There is many obstacles for the dream; endless you 're born into your wildest dream. For immigrants coming from different countries grasping their dream can be very hard.
Hamilton’s relationship with his father was abruptly terminated at an early age. The relationship had been good, in that Alexander listened to his father, and absorbed his philosophy. As did his mother, his father, James, taught his son some important lessons regarding the impermanence of personal relationships (Chernow). Despite James's ostensible closeness with his son, after his separation from Rachel, he initiated no contact with Alexander (Flexner). Even after Rachel's death, when there were no guardians for his sons, James was nowhere in evidence.
In the book, the characters all have one thing in common; a lack of success in their life and a need to have more. One example of this is the Buchanans’ attempts to achieve the American Dream. Tom and Daisy are unhappy despite the fact that they have a wealthy lifestyle and have begun a family. Although the Buchanans could be described as living the American Dream, they “lead American lives of no moral or existential significance" (Berman 12). They do not have much meaning for their lives, having already been given what is described as the American Dream.
Have you ever thought of the American Dream? The American Dream is a statement that gives people hope for a better life such as immigrants from other countries who have horrible life styles and they come to America to be an American. Being American is having love for his or her country regardless of your race by living the American Dream of hard work and a good life. Patrotism is the idea of a person who defends and fights for their country. Some examples are people who fight in their military becaue they fight to keep our country safe from outside invaders who want to take away our freedom and rights.
In conclusion , I’m lucky to be living in America and getting free education and not being judged by the way i look or talk or my race or religion . I hope that this stays the way it is forever but i hope things get better for people who don’t have the same
The immigrants do not have a simplistic journey reaching America, nevertheless facing the problems and difficulties is better than staying in their home country. Countless immigrants have strived for their place they should be allowed to live in a nation where they have contributed and worked hard on. The American dream and the immigrant experience is connected. The hard work of achieving the American dream is where the immigrant’s experience comes from.
When Dick learns of Danny’s ability to shine, he had no preconception of how powerful Danny’s shining was. Dick said that his own was passed through genetics, but Danny it doesn’t seem that way as his mother doesn’t and his father is so concealed by darkness and shame that neither can read him to see if he shines; it is perceived at this in the book that he does not. Although, if Jack does have the talent of shining and doesn’t know it, it he could have had dreamed that Al ran over a child and that he used the bug bomb but did not actually. Also in the book his inability to be read could refer to the car accident as stated before, or it could also be something that he doesn’t remember that is blocked out of his mind because it was terrifying; just like how Danny never remembers the
The American Dream is an ideal that every citizen should have an equal right to achieve success. In modern times, there are many obstacles to reaching the American Dream. Many people struggle to overcome the obstacles of the good life, but eventually finds a way out. In the passage, “A Smart Cookie”, it says, “I could’ve been somebody, you know?” People give up, when they could have ended up living the good life.
How can improvements be made without the people who want the improvements don’t make an effort? Giving American citizens the responsibility to improve their own lives may cause setbacks, but it is the outcome of these setbacks that enable change and allow further quality of life. Without American citizens taking initiative to improve their own lives, they will be never be satisfied with the quality of their own lives. Many improvements in this world such as freedom and rights were not established through citizens counting on authority to make this change. It was the people who were affected by this dilemma that took action that ended up giving a new meaning to life.
Another issue is rate of poverty and homelessness, just because you are in a certain situation does not mean that you will continue to be that way forever. As Americans we also like to stereotype others just because of the things that they do or certain people that they associate with and many other things. It takes a strong minded human being to prove statistics wrong and become that teacher, lawyer or doctor that they have once dreamed of. If everyone in the world would try to help others every day the world would be a better place, then there wouldn’t be a
The immigration system is not something people think about every day, but it is a huge problem for the individuals coming to America. Many people want to come to America because of the opportunities, one being education. Immigrants may have the opportunity to come to America, but cannot afford to go to college to receive the education deserved. There needs to be an education plan provided to immigrants. This new program, called Sponsoring Hope, will provide immigrants with sponsors who pay for them to attend school.
Ever since he was a little kid he took care of his brother who had cerebral palsy, he was the only one who could understand him. When the man decided he wanted his own life his family ostracized him. It is not just that this man had to hold back his dreams for another person even though they were family. Just like the burden was too big for 226 it was too big for 119, they both had their own dreams and there 's only so much one person can handle. No matter how selfless a person is everyone has a breaking point, and needs to love
I feel like kinda doesn 't mean anything to be an American, i honestly don 't believe everyone is treated equally. There is always some treating someone else like they are lower than them, just because you possibly have a better job or make more money doesn 't mean you 're any better than anyone else. What i have seen so far in my 18 years of living is that there is always going to be that person that thinks that their so much better because they have better things or that because there parents make good money that they 're going to be better. Regardless of what your parents make are what you make as an adult it doesn 't make you a king or a queen our eyes. If you act like you are more important or better than someone else they you 're just causing attention towards yourself and making you look like so horrible person.
