The American Dream is a equality of people can have high goals and do whatever job they want. That people work hard to achieve through school or experience or training to accomplish. But can everyone achieve their goals? Many people put hard work into getting the American dream. And there desire and putting however they feel ionto fuel to achieve that goal. Some succeed and others don't.Curly’s wife, Lennie, and Crook are characters from John Steinbeck’s novella Of Mice and Men whose struggles with uncontrollable strength, being isolated, and not treated like the rest lead to broken dreams that negatively impacted their lives.
To begin, Lennie’s experience with uncontrollable strength ruined his dreams of Tending the rabbits with his future farm with George For instance Steinback says, ”“Don’t you go yellin’,” he said, and he shook her; and her body flopped like a fish ”( Steinbeck 92). Which shows how his uncontrollable strength

Curly wife is in a way very despreate for attention. That she is even willing to talk to Lennie and try and understand his his madness of talking. To show how she is at least approved by someone she goes to depreate measures.Steinback states, “But my ol’ lady wouldnt let me.She says i was only fifteen. But the guy said I coulda. If I’d went, I wouldnt be livin like this, you bet.”(Steinbeck 88). It shows how she didnt get the approval she wanted. And goes for other guys for that approval in the Mice and men because she didnt get it from her mother or her dream of being a actor. Curly wife dream of wanting of approval has ruined her dream of being a actress and living the life she
Lennie and Curley’s wife ran into each other one day in the barn where Curley’s wife was talking to him without a sense of spite. Lennie started to play with her hair, but passively was doing it to rough. She began to scream,
(Steinbeck 77) This quote emphasizes how lonely Curley’s wife may feel in view of the fact that she has no one but a husband who doesn’t pay much mind to her. It is understandable that Curley’s wife has been reaching out to the workers due to the fact that she has no friends or family to spend time with; it’s like she’s stuck in a prison trying to find something or someone that stops her feeling trapped. These citations convey the reason Curley’s wife had dreamt of being an actress was to gain her own
Curley’s wife is telling Lennie how she could've made something of
Curly 's wife often relies on trying to get attention from the other men in the barn, because Curlys Wife is lonely. At one point in the book curley 's wife shows this, she says to Lennie “I get lonely… I can 't talk to nobody but curly.” ( p87) Curley 's wife says this, because she knows that if the men talk to her, Curly will become mad.
Curley’s wife is finds herself in an unlucky situation while attempting to befriend the “gentle” giant, Lennie, adding on to her already unfortunate past. She converses to Lennie of all her past plans, saying “‘I coulda made somethin’ of myself.’” Curley’s wife then reveals her backstory, how she nearly did make something of herself, with an actor or movie star husband, not some short-tempered, condescending control-freak. Following this, she dies because Lennie didn’t want her alerting the others to their location. What’s more, as readers follow the story, people see her as, states Candy, a “floozy,” which influences the opinion of how Curley’s wife is portrayed, a horrible, good-for-nothing whore.
In the timeline of Crook’s life colored people were not respected and were discriminated against ;hence, he is unable to achieve the American Dream. Thus this brings in Curly’s Wife into the topic which both have similarities and differences in their thoughts on the American
Achieving the American Dream "The ideal by which equality of opportunity is available to any American, allowing the highest aspirations and goals to be achieved" (Oxford Languages) is the idea of the American Dream. This idea is exhibited through all walks of life and in many books throughout the height of the 20th century. " Of Mice an Men" by John Steinbeck conveys this very well through the goals of the migrant American worker. In the book George and Lennie must work as ranch hands in the hope of saving up enough money to buy a small farm and work on their own. As the American Dream says itself, achieving it is possible for anyone no matter their mental deficiencies that somebody has or the job they do to achieve it.
To begin, Lennie’s experience with his mental disability ruined his dream and drastically changed his life due to his poor choices. According to Lennie Steinbeck’s story “Mice and Men” during the time they were in weed he said “ they bit my fingers and I pinched their heads a little and then they was dead--because they was so little” ( Steinbeck 10). This shows that Lennie struggled to realize the difference between right and wrong. Lennie killed the mice and did not believe that it was a bad thing; this shows that he does not understand his strength.
Though it gives him hope initially, George's belief in the American Dream, represented by the dream ranch, leads him to self-destruction. By looking at Of Mice and Men by John Steinbeck, the character of Crooks, and Curley’s wife reveals that the American dream is often a myth because of their race and gender. This does not apply to modern-day because equality has changed a lot since the 1930s, all races are treated equally, and women are not genderized as much. Looking back at Of Mice and Men, John Steinbeck uses the characters of Crooks and Curley's wife to show how the American dream is often a myth because people are judged on by race and gender. Curley's wife highlights the two main themes in the novel dreams and loneliness.
Says I was a natural. Soon 's he got back to Hollywood he was gonna write to me about it." (Steinbeck 88). Her dream is ultimately ruined by her mother who steals the letter that she is expecting from the executive. It is obvious that Curley’s wife is desperately lonely by her behavior on the
Curley’s wife was weakened by her state of isolation as the only female on the ranch. Due to this, she sought companionship with Lennie. Although Lennie was a mentally challenged individual, he was stronger with his status as a man who was also physically strong. Despite her efforts to escape Lennie’s grasp, the difference in power made Curley's wife unable to defend
Characters George and Lennie share the unrealized dream to own a small farm. This does not happen because Lennie’s incompetence to listen to George and his compulsion to touch soft things. Candy’s dream of gaining something tangible after working hard is crushed when Lennie ruins the farm-plan by killing Curley’s wife. Curley’s wife wishes she was an actress away from the grasp of Curley and the ranch. This however, is foolish because as a child she was called a fantastic actor.
American Dream is the idea that everyone should have an equal opportunity to achieve success and prosperity through hard work and determination. George is important to the story because he teaches and helps Lennie do the right thing, due to his mental disability, Lennie doesn’t know right from wrong. In Of Mice and Men by John Steinbeck, George expresses to Lennie throughout the story that you can get anything you want, with the hard work you put toward it. The author, John Steinbeck, does a really good job expressing the process George takes to develop the theme that it is human nature to want our dreams to come true because of the hard work we put toward it. George and Lennie have been traveling place to place, trying to find a job, so that they can get the money they need to be able to purchase their own land, “You jus’ stand there and don’t say nothing…
My definition of the American Dream is someone who starts from nothing and makes their way through life in a happy and healthy way. Not everyone is capable of reaching the American dream. In Of Mice and Men the American dream was not reached by Lennie and George. In A Raisin in the Sun, they too did not reach the American dream. The American dream is a difficult thing to accomplish even though many live their lives trying got achieve this dream.
Curley’s wife has lost her dream and she lives an unhappy life. Curley’s wife had a dream but that dream turned out as hopeless as her fate in the end of the book. She could have made something of herself but she quickly gave up on her dream as soon as something discouraging happened. Now she has to live regretting giving up so quickly. " ’I tell you I ain't used to livin' like this.
