Our flag shows that the United States of America is strong, brave, free, and can win in battle. The flag is symbolic to every American, even if it’s stand at the top of a hill overlooking a battlefield, everyone sees a million of reasons because of it. To the people of the United States the flag is very symbolic. It cannot have just one trait. In fact there are many reasons behind what Americans see in their flag.
MacArthur was a very brave and commanding general. His Thayer award speech acceptance passed the torch to the next generation of leaders. Throughout his speech, he uses logos to show what it means to be a military leader. He goes on to say how he will always feel “a sense of pride… which will be with me always: Duty, Honor, Country.” He uses this statement as a logo and achievement for these cadets to look up to. The three words “Duty, Honor, Country” also show logos because they are what every man or woman stands for in the military.
Whether it is fighting a monster (Beowulf fought and killed Grendel a monster), or a child walking into a classroom for the first time, bravery puts trust in yourself to face anything. Loyalty, is the quality of being loyal or the allegiance, dedication or commitment towards someone. In the case of heroes most are loyal to a King, Nation, or community. Beowulf was loyal to King Hrothgar and was always willing upon his own free will to help the King in anyway possible. Today, modern heroes are loyal to their community (police, firefighters) and Nation (military) and these individuals still help in anyway upon their own free will.
He will protect his teammates and his country no matter what the cost is.The hall of fame will be giving one new “Bravery award” to one great person this year. Marcus Luttrell should receive the award for bravery because he will and protect his teammates no matter the cost and had done it in battle before. Marcus Luttrell had to be brave in many situations. Marcus will be receiving the award for bravery. According to Marcus Luttrell.com’s bio, it says that “Luttrell was the only survivor.
The soldiers in Nam were all showing different acts of courage. Norman Bowker and Lieutenant Cross were presenting a bold front for someone else –Kiowa and Martha. Tim O’Brien and Curt Lemon plucked up their courage for themselves. And all the soldiers in the war overcame their fears for their country. The book focuses on both the act and the result of the soldier’s bravery.
Flag Protection Flag protection is “preserving the flag as a symbol of nationhood and national unity.” This means respecting the American flag, a great symbol of our country. Although the flag protection act was struck down in 1990, making it no longer a law, I believe the flag should still be respected by Americans. The flag should be respected because it represents many great things for our country. The colors of red, white, and blue represent hardiness, valor, purity, innocence, vigilance, perseverance, and justice. The thirteen stripes represent the thirteen original colonies, and the stars are for the fifty states in the U.S. All of these things tell why the flag should be respected, and they also tell of the importance of flag
“The American Dream”, a phrase that portrays life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness for American citizens. In 1931, the American Dream was first publicly defined. “Historian James Truslow Adams used the phrase in his book Epic of America. Adams' often-repeated quote is, "The American Dream is that dream of a land in which life should be better and richer and fuller for everyone, with opportunity for each per ability or achievement." Beowulf sacrificed himself to save a town from a dragon that was burning the town down. “Then Beowulf rose, still brave, still strong, and with his shield at his side, and a mail shirt on his breast, strode calmly, confidently, toward the tower, under the rocky cliffs: no coward's could have walked there!” (Lines 650-653). These lines show how brave and proud he was to sacrifice himself. Knowing that he may not come out of this one alive, he did what needed to be done. A brave ruler sacrifices themselves to keep the people safe and that’s what Beowulf was all about.
Being a profession of arms is an expert, ethical leader. This leader has mastered his/her soldiering skills and technical skills while embodying the Army Values and warrior ethos. A profession of Arms is recognizable by other Army peers and the community. It gives Soldiers a sense of pride in this volunteer only Army, who master the military profession. Soldiers who are profession of Arms serve as prime examples for citizens who want to be Soldiers to follow.
They don’t give up because they know that they are fighting for their country. If every soldier who was fighting gave up, what would our country be like today? Soldiers are honored because they stay where they are and fight for their country. They fight for what they believe in, they fight for what they believe is right. These people have made the choice in their lives to serve their country and honor their country because it truly means something to them.
Among the participants were the Native Americans, who enrolled voluntarily in huge numbers. Their ability to learn made them perfect soldiers who aided the U.S. Army in eliminating enemy threat. 44,000 Native Americans served in the World War 2 thereby providing the required manpower. Despite the presence of challenges, the Native Americans worked hard to safeguard the integrity of their Nation. Up to date, they are recognized as a group that was very committed to the war effort.
These things are what being American means to me. Patriotism is defined as fervent love of one’s country and allegiance to its government and institutions. Many Americans have this in common we all no matter race, color, or language have a passion for our country. Most of the people living here are immigrants and chose to come to America. This leadership and trust in the General is earned only by blood from his troops. There is no going back from beaning wrong or underestimating your opposition. Generals must possess Leadership, Commitment, and Honor. I think these three thing in a general will win the trust and support of any enlisted men. Many young students of a Military University while attending may never use what they have learned in the class room environment.
