When looking at two pieces of art it’s easy to just assume there are no similarities. However if you truly take in the whole art pieces you may find more similarities than you might think. For example, while looking at The Architect’s Dream, an oil painting created in 1840 by Thomas Cole and Starruca Viaduct, also an oil painting made by Jasper Franci Cropsey in 1865 you may not see any similarities. These paintings together almost represent the split world we live in; the division between man-made and nature. Both areas are beautiful in their own ways which is what Cole and Franci were able to depict. Neither side is better or worse, just different, so how could these two paintings be similar?
As previously mentioned, these pieces undoubtably

The main difference is the overall theme of the painting. The Architect’s Dream is a painting centered around the ability of man. This is done through making the main focal point this huge complex building, that as the title would suggest is an Architect’s Dream. By using the repetition of the archways in not only the focal point building but also in the church, Cole is able to highlight the beauty of what humans enjoy making. As well as the ability of humans to create something repeatedly with almost no differences. In contrast, Starruca Valley’s painting is centered around a sizeable mountain. Not only this mountain but almost all the scenery is focused on nature. Unlike The Architect’s Dream, Cropsey uses natural, unrepeating strokes to create this painting. No two trees are the same, similar to how you would find them in nature. The color choices of each painter are completely different. Cole uses lighter colors to capture his vison whereas Cropsey uses deeper, richer tones for his. The lighter colors give a certain softness to Cole’s work that without these colors would not have existed because of the type of lines he used to create the columns and buildings. To the opposite effect, the richer tones in Cropsey’s work helped distinguish the detail as his lines were more natural it is easy for the details to be muddled and lost with colors too similar or
These three things are combined in Preston’s artwork to create an overall message to convey to her audience. The main and significant message that this artwork represents is the possibilities of the fusion between various Aboriginal art forms and the possibilities of an indigenous revolution to come. This artwork expresses the importance of aboriginal art, culture and their way of life as this was a time in which Preston’s beliefs of the importance of Aboriginal art deepened. It was also at this time of significance to her where she developed a series of landscape paintings influenced by this idea. This artwork is also representative of her time living in Berowra where she was enthused by the seasonal display of native plants, in which she wanted to capture the essence of the Australian bush and its
Every artist is different and that goes for the art too. Any piece of art looks different with the shape, style, color, or even smell sometimes. On a canvas, it could have similar brushstrokes and completely different. Also, the reason why they started to paint, either to make money, to gain status, or just for fun. Just like there is differences between artists Henrietta Johnson and John Smibert.
The works of art I chose to compare and contrast are Memento Mori, "To This Favour", 1879 by William Michael Harnett, and Bull Skull, Fruit, Pitcher, 1939 by Pablo Picasso. The symbolism behind these two paintings are very similar. There are also some similarities in the composition of these two paintings, but there are many differences in the composition of these two paintings. The first symbolic similarity is that these paintings have a meaning of death.
A thing to note would be the similarities in the way that they were created. The Golden Altar was built using wood and covered in gold, while in the Maesta, the painting was painted on wood and filled in with gold. Also in the structure of both you can see the pillars with what seems to be windows that each contain a different person or story. Both works of art are viewed in church for the public to see. A difference is that in the Golden Altar, Jesus is the point of view for the audience.
The two pieces of art that will be compared and contrasted are the Bull-leaping and Lascaux Cave. Both paintings have similarities and differences. The first difference is where the two are located. The Bull-leaping painting is located in the palace of Knossos in Crete, while the cave painting is located in the Lascaux grotto in France. The two pieces of art have similarities and differences in the setting, audience, artist, materials, scale, and function.
On the other hand, even when they have a lot of differences they also many similar qualities. One example is that the titles are the exact same words, but different color and style of font “The New Yorker”. Art Spiegelman and Francoise Mouly image one of the twin towers has a peek at it and is slightly covering “New” in the title. In Goodrich image the flags on the taxi are covering
Both the Louvre Pyramid as well as the Museum of Rock and Roll created by I.M. Pei share several similarities as well as differences that make them both similar but still unique in their own ways. An example of how the two pieces are similar would be the elements that they portray within their structures. However some differences the two pieces would have are the level of interactions the structures allow their audience to have within them. Therefore the two buildings share both similarities and differences.
The bright colors on the downstage flats along with the purposely inexact lines allude that we are not only there to see a children’s show but are entering a child’s world. The flats upstage are painted to look like notebook paper with doodles on it, to anyone who knows the story of Junie B. Jones, will immediately feel connected to the story with the allusion to her Top Secret Personal Beeswax Journal. However, the scenic painting on the upstage flat looked realistic and intentional and the downstage ones looked hurried and it was detrimental to the cohesion of the design.
The village in the painting expresses the peaceful and romantic scene. The light is shining from the viewer direction, and it make the painting look all warm as it is wrapped in a summer feel. Furthermore, the color of the trees in the back of the village, red and orange of the leaves make the Fall theme for the painting. Whereas the top of the painting described the Summer and Fall, at the bottom, the full bush of .., and a redbud tree are the symbols of Spring. The artist combined all the seasons together makes the painting looks lively and vivid.
“A person professionally engaged in the design of certain large constructions including buildings and the like are known as architects,” by definition. Architects play a role, not only in everyday life, but also in history. Throughout the book Devil in the White City by Erik Larson, famous architects from around the world make an appearance and prove their strengths and weaknesses. Although when thought of, many believe architects are engineers that build and accomplish impossible statues, buildings, and architecture, but this is far from the truth. An architect can be found within every normal human because they always build and accomplish plans and other ideas.
While art varies in many ways, one can also easily identify many similarities between cultures. These similarities and differences have been seen and identified throughout history as art has continued to evolve. Architecture is no different, meaning although two grand structures were built on different sides of the world, similarities can be drawn between them. These similarities are consist of symbolism, architecture, and materials used in the structures. For example, the Hagia Sophia and Charlemagne’s Chapel both share similarities and differences through their histories and the architecture and decorations that make these structures so grand.
The fact that both artists were friends with their subjects would have affected the use of elements and principles in each of the portraits.
The other was commissioned by the government much later. This is a very realistically styled romantic painting using colors like black,
One of the clearest similarities is that both artists
My emotions are like both paintings - both masters of work shouldn't be overlapping one another, yet the very thought of it manages to make my mental state feel
