This extent of hostility and aggression coming from several other sources in the play was enough to ruin Othello. Thus, Othello’s downfall was more of a result of his race being that the main underlying motive behind the characters’ efforts to destroy him was racism. It is inadequate to bypass the sociology behind racism, the concept of race, prior to defining what racism actually is. The common understanding of race suggests the division of groups based upon the color of one’s skin, hair, eyes, etc. “Although biologically meaningless when applied to humans – physical differences such as skin color have no natural association with group differences in ability or behavior – race nevertheless has tremendous significance in structuring social reality” (Clair).
In the past of our history, this world used to be divided by the races in which humans never really consider themselves as totally equal and fair between all races. Such as the story of Killing the Mockingbird, the Town of Maycomb where lives our main character Scout Finch her family, has been divided by races and people with same race should do the same things or go to the same place. The people were not united and treated each race differently, especially Caucasian’s discriminations towards the African-Americans. We have to stop all these injustices, unfairness, and discriminations between races and treat everyone in this world equally and fairly. After all, we are all from the planet earth and we are all humans.
Racism is one of the most important social issues in the world, it seems to be trending in social network more often, especially when they say blacks can be racists as well. It is true black people and minorities can be racists, however they cannot carry out acts of racism because they do not have the opportunities or resource to practice racism in the manner white Americans have in the past and present. The issue at hand is that blacks can be racists it has affected millions of people worldwide. Racism is the discrimination of other groups on the basis of their different descent begins in the modern period.
Definitions can be the starting point for understanding racism. Racism is simply the belief that characteristics and abilities can be attributed to specific people on the basis of their race and some racial groups are superior to others. Dictionaries define the word as follows: The Oxford English Dictionary : “the belief that all members of each race possess characteristics, abilities, or qualities specific to that race, especially so as to distinguish it as inferior or superior to another race or races” Merriam-Webster’s Dictionary : “a belief that race is the primary determinant of human traits and capacities and that racial differences produce an inherent superiority of a particular race” In Portraits of White Racism, David Wellman
This is very applicable towards race relations between Black people and White people. But often at times, Hispanics, Asians, Middle Eastern/Arab people and even Native Americans have been left out of the conversation of racial politics and the debate around it. ” They act like I’m the official representative of the black race and they owe me an explanation... If I sit out a protest, I’m making a statement, but if they sit out a protest, they look racist.” This quote that has been stated alludes to a few concepts.
During this period of time African Americans were being treated without equality, since they were seen as a minority in the United States for their skin color. This led to have segregated public places all around America, because white people were seen as the dominant race, and could never imagen themselves cohabiting with other races, not even in their dreams. This type of problem was more likely to be visible in the south of the United States such as Alabama, Mississippi, Louisiana, South and North Carolina, Georgia, Florida and as well as Texas. However, segregation did not stop the white people for making the African American people be more aware of the procedures that they need to learn and live day by day, any African American who cross a boundary of the segregation signs would be punish by death. This procedure was very outrages for the fact that Black people were being lynched, for only making eye contact with a
On the contrary, distinguish between them by color, race and religion. In addition, this play displays of human nature at any time up to this time . In spite of the evolution in the atheist century minorities still suffer from persecution and hatred of the native people . When people can coexist peacefully? And when they accept others as they are?
Since beginning to learn about black history, I have heard many stories of how racism has been used by white people to make it acceptable to mistreat blacks and other races of people. Even after slavery ended and blacks were set free, whites refused to accept them as equals. We all know about how racism led to many innocent
Racism is the belief that a particular race is higher or lower than the other people. Racism means to isolate and separate the different races from each other and away from other races. Racism has been found throughout history, and can be determined by the hatred of a person by another or the act on the basis that someone is less than the rest of the people because of hisher color of skin, language, nationality, religion or any other factors though these factors are genetically determined, which means that they are not optional and no one can control them.
This is a long time for no black people to be recognized to kids as being the same or a part of a white super hero group. Even now, there are not many super heroes represented as African American or with the stereotypical traits. This is sending out a negative picture that people of color aren’t as valuable or heroic in society. In another light, before and after the Civil war even, African Americans depicted in art are stereotypical and caricatured to make them seem like worse figures of society (Hayes). When anything has dramatized features in art, it is very inappropriate and a bad portrayal because it associates a negative connotation with what is being depicted.
I hate knowing that cultural appropriation is still occurring. The fact that white people are able to take the African American’s originality without going through the same negative reaction as black people is unfair, and this goes for all the “trends” they decide to copy. White people are privileged. They take aspects of the African American culture, yet they do not receive the harsh feedback that African Americans would get when they do the same thing. I believe that white people should stop using the excuse that it’s “just a hairstyle” or “just a trend” and realize that African American people wear what they wear for a reason.
Now, many people agree that it should not matter what color your skin is, but what kind of a person you are, but sadly, not everyone in the world has looked at it this way. Racist thinking is a bad habit many in the world find difficult to break. The United States has faced this problem. Many years ago, after the Civil War, African Americans were abused and mistreated by the white people.
While it may seem like racism is not a problem in today’s society, it very much is. It was a larger problem before our time, as shown in the novel, The Poisonwood Bible, by Barbara Kingsolver. People witness racism everyday, whether they realize they do or not. Racism, by definition, is the belief that one race of people is better than another race of people. It is everywhere; on the radio, on television, on social media; however, it is not prohibited like it should be.
