The Barnstable Patriot is a week after week daily paper distributed in and for the town of Barnstable, Massachusetts. In spite of the fact that it charges itself as "a free voice subsequent to 1830", The Patriot has been possessed, following 2005, by Local Media Group.

News Corp. obtained The Patriot when it purchased Dow Jones & Company (Ottaway 's guardian) for US$5 billion in late 2007. Rupert Murdoch, the head of News Corp., purportedly told speculators before the arrangement that he would be "offering the neighborhood daily papers decently fast" after the Dow Jones buy.

On September 4, 2013, News Corp declared that it would offer the Dow Jones Local Media Group to Newcastle Investment Corp.— a subsidiary of Fortress Investment Group,
